Congratulations to the Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Registry!    Registries that consistently uphold high standards and strive for quality improvement are a source of inspiration and motivation for us at Pillar 4 Ensuring Quality. These photos, taken 20 years apart, beautifully illustrate this dedication.  As one of the first registries certified by WMDA in 2004, the Welsh Bone Marrow Donor Registry has demonstrated unwavering commitment to quality and best practices. Now, after two decades, they have achieved re-certification for Full Standards compliance according to the 2024 WMDA Standards. This re-certification includes the following services:   -Receiving search requests and maintaining a searchable database;   -Coordinating the provision of adult volunteer donors for stem cells;   -Supporting search requests from the registry’s transplant centres.  Heartfelt congratulations and immense gratitude for your unwavering dedication and exceptional hard work over the past 20 years! Every third Wednesday of the month the Cord Blood Operations Committee comes together online for a one-hour meeting. These meetings are open to all WMDA members with an interest in Cord Blood Banking and Cord Blood Transplantation.    Meetings are always lively and well-attended. The group focuses on improving cord blood units' data in WMDA Search and Match Service to facilitate selection of cord blood. They also share best practices e.g. on alternative use of cord blood. Often, speakers from the field are invited to present their work, or ask for guidance from the group.    Yesterday, we discussed the urgent need to add a flag to units that have been typed extensively, allowing for faster selection and shipment, thus reducing time to transplant. We also spoke about topics to cover during the three-hour session that's scheduled for our group during the upcoming face-to-face meetings in Quebec, before the start of IDRC.    If you are not a WMDA member, but interested in Cord Blood Operations, we welcome you to join our association and the monthly meetings.
