This stark statistic is dreadful. Another one shared by the UN Women is that 60% of female deaths occur at home. Today marks Day 2 of a 16 day worldwide campaign to end gender-based violence and the laws and culture that support it. While it's not the only answer to stop violence, employment can decrease it via an increase in women’s outside options and bargaining power and/or a reduction in financial stress in the household. Getting the right people in the room. The necessary people in the room for a recent supply chain workshop for a food-agri social enterprise included representatives from operations/processing/packing, quality control, sales, operation/logistics and the farmer engagement team of Raheja Solar Food Processing. The social enterprise is focused on increasing farmer incomes through solar dryers and mitigating food waste. Founder Varun Raheja and his team along with Women on Wings Supriya Kapoor and supply chain expert Germaine van Teeffelen wanted to identify needs and design the optimal supply chain steps for one of the business’ product lines. On day one, we discussed supply chain maturity, the current supply chain and the different ideas about new business models and how that would affect the supply chain. This also entailed fact checking costs, volumes, potential supplies and volumes, target margins and buyers to assess the credibility of the designed supply chain. On the second day, we worked on forecasting, capacity-planning techniques and deciding mitigations needed to overcome some of the current supply change challenges. Raheja Solar Food Processing and Women on Wings are in partnership to co-create more jobs for women living in rural areas of India. #supplychain #socialenterprise #ruraldevelopment
