Exploring brain function with a human-derived Brain-on-Chip (BoC) model: paving the way for personalized medicine and new strategies 🧠 The human brain, with its astonishing complexity, orchestrates every thought, emotion, and action that defines us. Yet, over a third of the global population suffers from neurological disorders, underscoring the urgent need to better understand this vital organ. The PhD research of Gülden Akçay highlights the profound influence of mechanical forces in brain function. Using a groundbreaking BoC platform integrated with human-induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC) technology, this work replicates the brain’s dynamic and static mechanical environment. Gülden defended her thesis titled “Human-derived Brain-on-Chip Mechanotransduction model and its applications” at the Department of Mechanical Engineering on November 19, 2024. Got curious? Learn everything about the philosophical perspectives on creative uses of artificial intelligence during the Creativity & Generative AI course! 📖 With the rapid deployment of generative AI in the arts, many creative professionals worry that this technology will be especially disruptive for the creative industries (film, plastic arts, new media), as well as for how we reward creativity in education and academic research. This course will explore how generative AI changes our concept of creativity, and how future iterations of this technology may transform how creativity is regarded as a fundamentally human characteristic in five days. Participants will write an abstract on a potential paper on the philosophy of creativity and generative AI (assessed), as well as writing a plan for a future academic article on this topic (optional). 📆 January 22 - January 28, 2024 ⏰ 11:00 - 17:30 📍 TU/e campus The event is free for PhD candidates and Research Master students that are member of the OZSW and/or 4TU Center for Ethics and Technology and/or another research school in Humanities. All other participants pay a tuition fee of €300. The deadline for registration is December 19, 2024, and there is a waiting list available if full capacity has been reached. Interested? Looking back on an inspiring Alumni event! 🎉 What an incredible evening we had on November 21 during the Alumni Event – Data & AI for Professionals Program from EAISI Academy & Jheronimus Academy of Data Science! Bringing our alumni together to share knowledge, experiences, and career opportunities was fantastic. The energy and enthusiasm in the room were palpable, and it was truly inspiring to see professionals from various sectors connect and form new relationships. The evening kicked off with a warm welcome from our passionate lecturer, Raoul Beeldsnijder followed by a reflection on the success of the Data Science & AI program for professionals by our scientific director, Prof. Dr. Wim Nuijten. Next, Postdoc Dr. Babak Esmaeili delivered a deep dive into the fascinating world of generative AI. After a delightful dinner, the program continued with Dr. Ir. Carlo van de Weijer, EAISI’s general manager, who shared his unique perspective on technological advancements throughout history and the role of AI in the future. Alumni Joline van Sorge and Madou Derksen then delivered a joint presentation on their work with PLUGIN Healthcare. The evening concluded with program director Daniel Kapitan who introduced our new alumni programs and platform. For many, this event was a unique opportunity to network during and after the sessions. Whether seeking new knowledge, challenges, collaboration opportunities, or simply strengthening existing connections, this event had something for everyone. A special thanks to our alumni for contributing to the open and vibrant atmosphere. You are the backbone of the Data Science & AI for professionals community, and together, we continue to build a future where data and AI make a difference. We look forward to welcoming our alumni again next year! Curious to learn more about the alumni event and our academy? 🎉 Reflecting on an inspiring workshop at the AI, Data & Robotics Forum! We’d like to thank everyone who joined us on November 5th at the AI, Data & Robotics forum. As part of the forum, Wouter Kuijpers (RBT), Elena Torta (RBT), and Hala Elrofai (EAISI) hosted a workshop on long-term adoption of collaborative robots. It was a pleasure to welcome industry leaders and academics and to engage in insightful discussions on key areas like explainability, human-robot interaction, and digital twins 🤖. A special thanks to our speakers – Thomas Vögele (DFKI), Sarah Terreri (PAL Robotics), Marco Alonso (Philips), Carlos Zednik (TU/e), and Elena Torta (RBT) – for their valuable insights and expertise. 💡 And a big thanks to Wouter Kuijpers for leading and moderating the engaging discussions. We also asked our audience to share their thoughts on essential development areas, and the resulting wordcloud nicely captures the community's vision and priorities for advancing collaborative robotics in Europe. 🌍🤖 Thanks again to everyone who attended! For those who couldn’t attend or anyone who wants to learn more, recordings of the plenary sessions and all presentation slides can be found on the ADRF website (https://lnkd.in/eJVyUCjN) EAISI – Eindhoven Artificial Intelligence Systems Institute Adra - AI-Data-Robotics-Association #AI #Robotics
