𝗢𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗘 - It was wonderfully busy last Friday at the festive opening of our new fashion exhibition SHAPE – body, fashion, identity. After a formal word of welcome from our director, Jochem Otten, and the exhibition's curator, Suzan Russeler, the guests had the privilege of being the very first to explore the exhibition. Inside, they encountered a stunning landscape filled with surprising looks, innovative designs, and thought-provoking outfits 🔥 The evening continued with music by DJ Louise Penners, fries & bubbles, and a photobooth by Keepsake to capture the moment. Het was gezellig druk afgelopen vrijdag bij de feestelijke opening van onze nieuwe modetentoonstelling 'SHAPE - body, fashion, identity' Na een officieel woordje van onze directeur Jochem Otten en curator van de expo Suzan Russeler, mochten de genodigden als allereerste een kijkje nemen in de tentoonstelling. Daar trof men een prachtig landschap met verrassende looks, innovatieve ontwerpen en outfits die je aan het denken zetten. Verder hebben we deze avond genoten van de muziek van DJ Louise Penners, friet & bubbels, en kon de avond worden vereeuwigd dankzij de photobooth van Keepsake. Approximately one year ago I worked on Pollia at TextielLab during its Advanced Textile Program. In the 2024 spring, the research and project was presented at TextielMuseum in the exhibition 'A Matter of Life'. This included the first Pollia piece, a three-dimensional sculptural textile that has been formed through interwoven drawstrings. This week, the second Pollia piece makes its debut at Dutch Design Week. While it is an identical counterpart to the first - being a 3.5-meter-long textile woven as an exact replica - the manual process of pulling the drawstrings results in subtle differences, making each piece uniquely shaped despite their similarities. With this second piece, the narrative of Pollia becomes more complete: the project explores manual creation versus machine precision and seeks for individual character in reproducible, machine-made textiles. The project questions how mass production shapes our relationship with objects and is part of ongoing research into 'design to cherish'.
