Aker Solutions la ut dette på nytt
The assembly of the Hugin A platform is underway at Stord. Today, the first building block was lifted into place at the assembly area at the Aker Solutions yard. Hugin A is the area centre in the Yggdrasil development. The platform is delivered by the Fixed Facilities Alliance between Aker BP, Aker Solutions, and Siemens Energy. The topsides will weigh nearly 30,000 tonnes when completed. Over the next year, the Hugin A platform will rise at the yard with sections and modules delivered from multiple yards in Norway and abroad. Several thousand people will be involved in the work, which will have significant ripple effects in the local community at Stord.

Hydrogen – Building Value Chains for Growth Hydrogen shows great potential as a clean energy carrier in the energy transition. Aker Solutions is actively engaging in the hydrogen sector, exploring the latest initiatives, connecting with industry leaders, and sharing insights from hydrogen projects. Our Director of Hydrogen and Derivatives, Irina Tanaeva, recently participated in a panel debate at the 5th H₂ Value Chain Conference in Oslo, Norway. Here are some key takeaways: • Although slower than anticipated, the hydrogen market is advancing. Recently, nearly €500 million was awarded to eight Norwegian companies involved in the H₂ value chain by the EU Innovation Fund—the largest single allocation from the EU Innovation Fund to Norwegian companies ever. • Green hydrogen production projects in Norway, led by Yara Clean Ammonia and Norwegian Hydrogen, are sharing valuable experiences and challenges. • Engineering and construction companies like Aker Solutions should get involved in projects earlier to find the best solutions, including the right business model. • Scaling up H₂ projects is a "tough nut to crack," requiring the combined expertise of integrators, OEMs, developers, legislators, and investors. Several Norwegian start-ups presented creative solutions—from H₂ combustion engines to H₂ membranes and mobile hydrogen-based generator replacement systems—demonstrating that for each challenge, there is a solution if one puts their mind to it. Aker Solutions leverages over 30 years of hydrogen expertise to provide integrated services from feasibility studies to EPC. Our strong integrator experience, OEM partnerships and multidisciplinary teams ensure innovative, cost-effective hydrogen and derivatives solutions.

𝐀𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐮𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 🌊⚡ Today, we launched a cutting-edge hydropower workshop at Tranby Technology Centre, featuring Northern Europe’s largest five-axis Feichter vertical millturn machine. With a turning diameter of 12 meters and a 120-ton capacity, this powerful machine can precisely machine critical hydropower components like turbine runners and covers. This milestone strengthens Aker Solutions' ability to meet the growing demand for renewable energy solutions. 🌍 💧 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐜𝐲: Aker Solutions builds on over 150 years of hydropower expertise, dating back to our predecessor Kværner. Today, we continue to support both new projects and critical infrastructure maintenance with advanced machining, welding, and surface treatment. 🌐𝐄𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫: Hydropower remains crucial for balancing Norway’s energy mix as renewable energy sources like wind and solar grow. This investment ensures reliable, sustainable solutions to support the energy transition and stabilize energy systems 🤝 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The new workshop fosters collaboration across the energy sector, building stronger partnerships between energy companies, consultants, and suppliers. 👷 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: By integrating CNC machining, welding, assembly, and advanced surface treatment, the facility delivers efficient, cost-effective solutions. Local production ensures faster upgrades, reduced downtime, and rapid response times for critical hydropower infrastructure. ♻️ 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬: By reusing steel components from hydropower plants, we significantly reduce CO₂ emissions and promote responsible resource use. The expanded hydropower facilities will be fully operational from November 2024, boosting local production and contributing to Norway’s renewable energy transition. 🔋🌊 Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this milestone at Tranby! 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠! | 𝐆𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐣𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 The 2600-tonne Ekofisk 2/4G jacket lower section has been successfully toppled at Aker Solutions’ decommissioning yard and is now ready for dismantling and recycling. Watch the video below to see how it was done! 👇 Installed in 1981, this jacket was a vital part of Ekofisk 2/4 G until operations ceased in 1998. The removal operation was a complex and precise task, conducted by the heavy lift vessel Pioneering Spirit. Using its 5,000-ton crane, the vessel cut the jacket into two sections due to height limitations, lifted each part onto the aft deck, and transported them to Aker Solutions' recycling yard. There, the structure was carefully weakened, and the team then used pull force to bring it safely to the ground. With a recycling rate of about 98 %, this project represents a significant contribution to the circular economy and environment.
