Chan School of Public Health. Ingvild Fossgard Sandøy will take over as the Director of BCEPS, with Kjell Arne Johansson as Deputy Director, from January 2025. Ole F. Norheim will remain involved in BCEPS research as an adjunct researcher. The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health recently published a nice article about Ole F. Norheim's work and future plans as a full professor at Harvard University. 💡 📄 👉 Read it here: https://lnkd.in/d7ctk8vY University of Bergen Alrek helseklynge #harvard #harvardchan #hsph #publichealth #globalhealth #professor #newrole #leadership #ethics #research #fairness #efficiency

💥 New study co-authored by BCEPS Postdoctoral Fellow Mizan Kiros Mirutse: "Inequalities in tuberculosis control in Ethiopia: A district-level distributional modelling analysis", recently published in Tropical Medicine and International Health. There are significant disparities in access to effective tuberculosis services across districts in Ethiopia, due to both the health system and tuberculosis-specific factors. Adding tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment to community health extension workers' tasks has significantly improved case detection and treatment outcomes. However, scaling this "task-shifting" approach requires prioritisation due to resource limitations. 📝 By modeling optimal interventions, this study shows that this kind of targeted task-shifting in underserved districts could boost case detection from 66% to 88% and treatment success rates from 93% to 99%. 💡 📄 👉 Read the full paper here (#openaccess): https://lnkd.in/dn9Q4hYd 📸 Nappy Studio University of Bergen #ethiopia #TBcare #tuberculosis #costeffectiveness #prioritysetting #postdoc #phd #research #newstudy #modeling #intervention #study #analysis #healthintervention

👉 Bill Gates discusses recent Stoltenberg Committee report, co-authored by committee members BCEPS Director Ole F. Norheim and BCEPS Ghana NCD Project Lead Lumbwe Chola, in op-ed in Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten: "Norges lederskap redder millioner av liv" ("Norway's leadership saves millions of lives"). "Although Norway is a relatively small nation, it has had an enormous impact on global health. The world needs Norway to continue to be a global leader. The Stoltenberg report sets an ambitious goal: to halve the number of premature deaths globally by 2050. It may sound unrealistic, but I believe it is possible – perhaps even before 2050. The reason I have faith is that we have already done it once before". ~ Bill Gates 🇳🇴 Link to the original article (in Norwegian): https://lnkd.in/dNsh26kG 🇬🇧 You can read a translated version of the article in English here: https://lnkd.in/dbVW5d7P University of Bergen (UiB) Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Alrek helseklynge #billgates #gatesfoundation #oped #norway #foreignaid #governmentaid #globaldevelopment #50by50 #developmentaid #globalhealth #publichealth #newreport

📣 Please join us in congratulating our Centre Director, Ole F. Norheim, on his new role as Mary B. Saltonstall Professor of Ethics and Population Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, which he will assume in January 2025! 🎉 We are fortunate that he will remain involved with BCEPS projects as an adjunct researcher and look forward to new collaborations and opportunities. 🤝 Please see Ole F. Norheim's announcement below. 👇👇 All the very best at Harvard University, Ole Frithjof! 👏
I’m excited to share that I will be moving to Boston and taking on a new role as Mary B. Saltonstall Professor of Ethics and Population Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health from January 1, 2025. At the Department of Global Health and Population, I will teach ethics and continue my work as Lead Editor of the Disease Control Priorities project (DCP4), which works with partners in low-income countries to develop frameworks and criteria for health care priority setting and produce evidence to help guide decisions. This move means that I will step down from directing the Bergen Centre for Ethics and Priority Setting in Health (BCEPS) and am happy to announce that Professor Ingvild Sandøy will take over the Centre leadership. I am confident in BCEPS’ continued success as a Norwegian Centre of Excellence, and I am fortunate to remain part of BCEPS as an adjunct researcher. Through this new position, I hope to strengthen the ties between BCEPS/University of Bergen (UiB) and Harvard University and continue training early-career researchers from both Norway and low-income countries in the ethics of fair and efficient priority setting in health. #unibergen #harvard #harvardchan #prioritysetting #ethics #publichealth #globalhealth #healthcare Photo: Ryan N.
