Lukas Jansen has started as a new PhD candidate at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet (NTNU). Jansen will be undertaking a 3-year doctoral degree in hybrid manufacturing. He will research combined additive and subtractive processes with focus on tool wear monitoring in machining. He will do so by optical measurement of cutting tools. The supervisor is Knut Sørby. Jansen completed a master’s degree in sustainable manufacturing at NTNU in August of 2024. Welcome, Lukas. 

Jeg har lyst til å dele en tilbakemelding som jeg fikk fra en av mine tidligere studenter for ikke så lenge siden. Det er alltid hyggelig å høre at man har bidratt og utgjort en forskjell. "Praktisk prosjektledelse var ett av de fagene jeg ‘måtte ta’ i løpet av min master, og som jeg så mest frem til å få overstått. Det viste seg å være en feilvurdering. Det faglige nivået på foreleserne er svært høyt, og både oppgaver og historier fra deres arbeidsliv gjør faget meget relevant for erfarne folk i arbeidslivet. Hittil det beste kurset i løpet av min pågående utdanning, veldig fornøyd." Det er fint å få gode ord for det man gjør, men det er også viktig å påpeke at det er et samspill mellom oss som forelesere og våre studenter som legger grunnlaget for et høyt læringsutbytte. Aktive studenter er derfor en forutsetning for å lykkes! Congratulations to Anna Florea for successful defending her doctoral study! The doctoral dissertation of MSc (Tech) Anna Florea in the field of industrial #engineering titled " Roadmap for Adoption of Distributed Interactive Simulation Approach for Integration of Digital Twins for Industrial Applications" was publicly examined at the Faculty of Engineering at Norwegian University of Science and Technology at 13:15 CET on Thursday, 14.11.2024 in Disputas, Trondheim, Norway. The Opponents was Assistant Professor Jari Vepsäläinen from Aalto University, Finland and Assistant Professor Mirgita Frasheri, Aarhus University, Denmark. The administrator was Associate Professor Anna Olsen from Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Anna will received a double doctoral degree within an agreement between Tampere University and Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Work was supervised by prof.Tatiana Minav and Andrei Lobov. In her doctoral dissertation, Anna Florea evaluated the instrumentation of application protocols and engineering processes of IEEE suite for Distributed Interactive Simulations from the field of defense transferred to the field of digital twin engineering. The work proposes a roadmap for adopting the DIS principles for engineering solutions where digital twins can operate in a cross-domain and cross-organizational landscape supporting business models emerging with the transition towards an industrial metaverse. #digitaltwins #DIS #roadmap #digitalization #connectivity
