Leveraging advanced inflow control technology Efficient design and application of autonomous inflow control technology for oil extraction hinges on effectively differentiating and controlling fluid phases based on viscosity and density. Advanced inflow control technologies such as the RCP type AICD, AICV and D-AICD play an increasingly critical role in optimizing well performance. AICD (RCP type Autonomous Inflow Control Device): AICDs adapt mainly to viscosity differences between oil and water or gas. In cases with high viscosity oil, the AICDs can be used to hold back water. In light oil systems, these valves can be used to suppress gas production. A-ICV (Autonomous Inflow Control Valve): AICVs adapt to both viscosity and density differences. In cases where oil and water have similar viscosities, they differentiate the phases based on density, reducing water production. The AICVs are generally efficient in suppressing gas production. D-AICD & DAR (Density based Autonomous Inflow Control Device): D-AICDs focus on density differences, dynamically adjusting flow paths using real-time density measurements. This ensures effective separation and control of water and gas. These companies are suppliers of the above mentioned technologies: Halliburton InflowControl TAQA Well Completions Welltec   By selecting the right technology based on well specific fluid properties, operators can enhance performance and achieve more sustainable production. Flowpro Insight is the industry’s most advanced tool to select and optimize inflow control technology. Principal Advisor Reservoir Engineering at Aker BP - SPE Distinguished Lecturer 2024-2025

On the way home after a fantastic week at Adipec and Abu Dhabi. A lot to learn on the SPE technical conference and the gigantic energy exhibition. Our joint SPE paper from InflowControl, Flowpro Dynamics and Aker BP ASA is now available at OnePetro with all the details. The paper publish new independent test data of an revised AICV and explains further a new and improved modelling workflow. Both is key to make better and more environment-friendly wells. Together with Aker BP ASA, Flowpro Dynamics has set a new standard in modeling InflowControl completions through the development of the Insight software. Gain insight into the dynamic and cascading effects that determine how your downhole valves will actually perform. This is especially crucial for advanced inflow control technologies, such as the A-ICV by InflowControl as mentioned in this paper, as well as the D-AICD by Halliburton and the DAR by Innowell Solutions & Welltec. #digitaltransition #petroleum #software

New modelling workflow for long horizontal wells Kåre Langaas and external co-authors presented a poster at the SLB forum 2024 last week, showcasing our new modelling workflow for long horizontal wells with inflow control technology. The case study compares both standard ICD and a new AICV, based on Aker BP-funded hardware testing in Porsgrunn. This new modelling workflow is essential for evaluating new infill wells, like the ones we drill on Yggdrasil. It is crucial for understanding value and risks, while helping us create better, more sustainable wells by reducing water production. This is a significant step towards more efficient and responsible operations at Aker BP. The full paper will be published in November🌟   #Innovation #Sustainability #Yggdrasil #AkerBP #digitalinaction #rebelsinaction

On behalf of Kristian Brekke, Vidar Mathiesen and myself, I will present a poster «A new modelling approach improves predictions of wells with inflow control technology». The case study shown uses a new Autonomous Inflow Control Valve for Ultra-light oil and demonstrate full integration with the industry standard reservoir simulator Eclipse. I will explain more at the poster stand. A spe paper on the case study will follow in November (Adipec)
