Om oss
FME NorthWind works to turn wind R&D into a profitable export industry that creates green jobs and respects nature. The research will address the grand science and engineering challenges to realize the full potential of the wind energy sector in a sustainable future. The Centres for Environment-friendly Energy Research (FME) carry out long-term research targeted towards renewable energy, energy efficiency, CCS and social science aspects of energy research. The centres selected for funding must demonstrate the potential for innovation and value creation. Research activities are carried out in close collaboration between research groups, trade and industry, and the public administration, and key tasks include international cooperation and researcher training. The centres are established for a period of maximum eight years (5 + 3). Read more about FMEs at The Research Council of Norway’s website.

Our Annual Innovation Forum continues today with workshops on predictive maintenance and lifetime extension of wind turbines, as well as offshore grid development💡
We are proud to lead FME NorthWind, the Norwegian Research Centre on Wind Energy. Project consortium members have been gathered since yesterday to get research updates from people such as PhD candidate Lukas Seifert⤵️ Lukas has been researching the ecological impacts of onshore wind farms, by comparing how vegetation has recovered at wind farms sites of various ages🌱 Interested in this topic? Watch this space because Lukas is working on a blog article that will be published and shared right here next week💡 This is just one example of how FME research centres such as NorthWind connect research and industry to drive sustainable innovation in environment-friendly energy. FMEs are financed by the Research Council of Norway - Norges forskningsråd. NorthWind's Annual Innovation Forum continues today. It's a great opportunity for project partners to help steer the direction of the research, and provides excellent networking opportunities in the field. It's time for our Annual Innovation Forum 2024! The two-day event kicked off with an opening address by Birgit Hernes, from Norges forskningsråd. She reminded participants of the importance of spreading research results to the general public⤵️ Elling Rishoff, from DNV, who is the chairperson of the NorthWind Board, wished the incoming director Gard Hopsdal Hansen welcome. Gard is currently at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), and will assume a new position at SINTEF Energy Research and the role of director of NorthWind in January. The Annual Innovation Forum features the presentation of selected results, and workshops on various research topics. It constitutes an excellent occasion for networking and cross-pollination among consortium members. FME NorthWind la ut dette på nytt
Yesterday, we kicked off the Energy Transition Seminars with an updated format and a fresh location at Gruva. 🎉 Organizers and hosts, Viviane Aubin, Amber Nordholm and Benjamin Mitterrutzner had the pleasure of hearing from Chief Scientist John Olav Tande (SINTEF Energy Research) and PhD candidate Birgitte Nygaard (NTNU, FME NorthWind), who shared insights on "Offshore Wind and its Role in Norway's Energy Future." The seminar ended with great discussions, new connections, and pizza 🍕. We had over 50 attendees yesterday, so thank you to everyone who participated! The next seminar (October 31st) asks the question: CCS: essential tool or an expensive distraction? 😬 Should be an interesting discussion, so stay tuned for that one. #EnergyTransition #OffshoreWind Heidi Fossland Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) NTNU Energy
