🚀 Transfer Plans: A key step for sustainable innovation 🌍 #Transferplans play a crucial role in the RESIST Project by bringing innovative solutions to regions tackling climate change adaptation (#CCA). These plans outline concrete actions to help stakeholders select the most valuable #innovations, align with regional #ecosystems, and prepare for effective #implementation. As Vilija Balionyte-Merle (SINTEF ), RESIST Project coordinator, said: 📢 "This was the biggest RESIST risk—what if twinning regions didn’t find valuable solutions? What if collaboration stayed within regional or national silos? But thanks to the dedication of our partners, we have delivered high-quality results that pave the way for the next three years." Collaboration and innovation are keys to robust climate change mitigation.💡 Through the RESIST Project, 12 European regions work to develop and share solutions to a range of problems, spanning from sea-level rise to wildfires. 🌊 Here in Vesterålen, we work with colleagues in Vesterålsrådet, Andfjord Salmon AS, SINTEF and STIFTELSEN MUSEUM NORD to protect our region from rising sea levels and temperatures. ✨Plans for 2025 just launched: We’re making a new museum in a former shopping centre!✨ As 2024 comes to a close, we’re ready to share some big news for the new year. GaiaVesterålen and Sortland Museum, both constituent parts of STIFTELSEN MUSEUM NORD, are set to merge and move into new temporary premises in Sortand’s former shopping centre, Galleriet. 🏬 The brand new GaiaVesterålen Museum will open in the summer of 2025, and award-winning architects Lundhagem are currently drawing up plans for what it will look like. ✏️ To ensure that we preserve the best of what Sortland Museum and GaiaVesterålen currently offer as we move into this next phase, we invite the local community to join us for an open meeting in January to share needs and wants for the new museum. 🙋 More information coming soon! 👀 Find out more (Norwegian) 👇

The old Nortura slaughterhouse to become a museum! 🥳⤵️   Today, the Sortland municipal council approved a collaboration agreement with the EU project Circ-Boost. The agreement ensures that concrete from the Nortura building will be reused in the new and fully circular GaiaVesterålen Museum! 🏚️♻️   Demolition works are scheduled to begin this summer. In collaboration with Circ-Boost partners UiT- The Arctic University of Norway, Reno-Vest IKS, STIFTELSEN MUSEUM NORD, and Lundhagem, GaiaVesterålen will give old concrete new life in an innovative and sustainable structure. 🏗️💡   Curious about how an old slaughterhouse becomes a museum? The Extremadura region in Spain is home to large wooded areas that are increasingly vulnerable to the ravages of wildfires.   The RESIST Project exists to mitigate problems such as this one, caused by different manifestations of climate change throughout Europe. 🌡️   Last week, participants from all partnering regions met in Extremadura (Spain) to progress their climate resilience work against a backdrop of recent flooding and wildfires.    Ane Høyem represented the Vesterålen region together with Henriette Endresen from Vesterålsrådet and Stig Pettersen from Andfjord Salmon AS. They learned about local efforts to manage wildfires, restore local biodiversity, and produce food in sustainable ways. 🧀   The meeting was a valuable occasion to discuss plans for climate solutions sharing between regions. With 12 European regions working to tackle a broad range of problems in their respective communities, there is great potential for sharing, adapting, and scaling solutions that can make a difference. 📉

Can the construction industry in Vesterålen truly become a national leader in circular building processes? ♻️ Yes, it can! 💡 The GaiaVesterålen Museum is one of five pilot projects in the EU initiative Circ-Boost and will be the first truly circular building of its kind in Norway. 🏗️ Circ-Boost aims to transform the construction industry by enhancing expertise in circular building processes and the reuse of concrete across five locations in Europe: Barcelona, Belgrade, Paris, Prague, and Vesterålen. 🌍 In such esteemed company, the construction industry in Vesterålen has a fantastic opportunity to lead the transition to green building practices in Norway. Sharing knowledge as a beacon of Circ-Boost activities ✨💡🎓 Last Friday, our Pilot 3 leaders University of Belgrade, Faculty of Civil Engineering conducted the training "A step toward carbon neutral and circular construction industry" at the inspiring setting of the FCE building 🚀♻️🏗️ 💡Ass. prof. Reusing concrete for the future. ♻️ Concrete is - quite literally - the foundation of modern construction practice, but its production is responsible for a significant portion of global CO2 emissions. 🚧 Vesterålen is the only Norwegian participant in the EU project Circ-Boost: a project which seeks to develop circular construction methods and boost the reuse of concrete. 🔍 Together with our national partners in Reno-Vest IKS, Lundhagem, and UiT- The Arctic University of Norway, we have a terrific opportunity to develop capabilities for reusing concrete locally, through the realisation of the GaiaVesterålen Museum in Sortland. 🏗️ The GaiaVesterålen Museum is one of five Circ-Boost pilot projects, with the other four located in the European cities of Prague, Paris, Belgrade and Barcelona. As a Circ-Boost participant, Vesterålen is in a position to take a lead on green transformation in the construction sector. That is an opportunity worth seizing! 🌱

Just over half of Vesterålen's population - well under the national average - believes human activity to be the primary driver of climate change.🌡️ As part of our work in the EU-funded RESIST Project, we asked people in the region's largest town to share their thoughts about the changing climate. You can watch parts of our conversations in the video below. 🎬 RESIST is a five-year climate resilience project with collaborators across 12 European regions. In addition to us, the Vesterålen consortium comprises Andfjord Salmon AS, Vesterålsrådet and SINTEF. 🗺️ Together, we seek to boost European communities' ability to withstand ongoing and predicted harms from climate change, including floods, droughts, heatwaves, wildfires, and soil erosion. 🌊 Representatives from each regional consortium will meet in Extremadura (Spain) next week to share learnings from the project's many activities so far, plan for future work in the individual regions, as well as for fruitful collaborations and knowledge transfer between regions.
