Our oceans need our help now more than ever, but with the help of algae, we're turning the tide on ocean crises and restoring our waters. 🌱 💧♻️ The LOCALITY project aims to create sustainable, circular value chains from algae. By bringing together industrial players, we're sparking innovation and crafting amazing algae-based products for both local and global markets. 🌍 Plus, we're safeguarding Europe's aquatic ecosystems every step of the way. 🐟 From nutritious foods to eco-friendly textiles, LOCALITY is paving the way for socially responsible and sustainable solutions. We're using algae from side streams and the Baltic and North Seas to create these incredible products. 🌿 #LocalityAlgae #Algae #Agriculture #Aquaculture #Food #Textile #Sustainability #CircularEconomy

❓Want to know why our LOCALITY Project is so important for circularity? We are using industry wastewater to grow algae which are then used to develop products along the whole algae value chain. In detail we are using wastewater from greenhouses in the Netherlands, aquaculture waste streams in Norway, and textile waste streams in Sweden. ♻ 📰 Dive into our new article, featuring insights from Margarida Costa (NIVA - Algal Future & The Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA)) and Bernardo Carvalho (GreenCoLab). https://lnkd.in/dYqx5K6j #Algae #AlgaeValueChain #Resource #Wastewater #Aquaculture #Textiles

Our project partner Ana Teresa Gonçalves presented at the 2nd International Animal Health Symposisum her work carried out between the institutions SPAROS, Lda and GreenCoLab for the LOCALITY projet. Her talk focused on how different algae species and biorefinery-derived fractions impact the intestinal mucosa of salmonids - a transformative strategy to promote fish welfare and productivity. Thank you Ana for sharing your work! Find out more in the post below or on our website www.locality-algae.de #Algae #Aquaculture #Fish #Health #Biorefinery
🐟 Over the past two days, Porto has been hosting the 2nd International Animal Health Symposium! 🎙️During the "Nutrition and Health" session, Ana Teresa Gonçalves presented her research "HARNESSING THE POWER OF #ALGAE: A MULTIFACETED APPROACH TO FISH HEALTH" work carried out between GreenCoLab and SPAROS, Lda. Her work, part of the LOCALITY Algae European project, explores how different algae species and biorefinery-derived fractions impact the intestinal mucosa of salmonids - a transformative strategy to promote fish welfare and productivity. 📌 This year's symposium, organized by CIIMAR’s A2S, held at Espaço Atmosfera M, centers around the theme “Towards More #Sustainable Animal Farming.” Aquatic Animal Health #A2S #CIIMAR #LOCALITY #SPAROS #GreenCoLab #joiningthepiecesinalgalbiotechnology

Have you been to any of the algae & food releated events lately? Our partners are actively promoting their research at these events. Just last week Xiaxia Di presented the LOCALITY project in Shangai, China, at the 22nd Conference on International Exchange of Professionals - Life and Health Symposium. Two of the main questions from participants were answered during her talk: ? Are there any regulation in the EU for the application of microalgae biomass cultivated by wastewater? Yes, there are several regulations in the EU that govern the application of microalgae biomass, especially like animal feed, food etc. ? What is the lipids content (Omega 3 oil) compared to fish oil? Microalgae oil is considered a more sustainable alternative. It can be produced through controlled cultivation in bioreactors, using fewer resources and avoiding the overfishing of marine species. They contain similar or even higher levels of EPA and DHA, depending on the species. It is particularly popular as vegan plant-based source of omega 3. If you are attending upcoming events in this field, for example the Animal Health Symposium in Porto, Portugal, look out for our project partners to get more information first hand about LOCALITY. #Algae #Food #Biomass #Lipids #CircularEconomy #WaterReuse

Have you already watched our latest video, where Luca Buscaglia from Wageningen University & Research shares his day-to-day work? 🌱💧♻ To produce it, our communication partner ESCI - European Science Communication Institute went to Wageningen, in the Netherlands. They visited the University’s facilities, including the laboratory, where Luca revealed how a monitoring system is optimising the growth of microalgae in bioreactors. 🧪 ESCI and Wageningen University are partners in two algae related projects, so it was a great opportunity to meet up, interview and film scientists from both projects LOCALITY and our sister project REALM algae. Many thanks to Melanie Maria Obermeier from ESCI for the professional interview recording. 🎬 Check out some impressions from behind the scenes! And if you haven’t seen the video yet, go check it out 👀👉 https://lnkd.in/dqtX2TEJ #LocalityAlgae #Algae #Sustainability #HorizonEurope

Let’s meet Ida Näslund, CEO and founder of MOUNID, our Swedish partner. 🤝 Mounid aims to create an algae ink for textiles, in collaboration with textile companies to push the transition towards a more sustainable, circular textile industry with reduced climate footprint. To do so, Mounid wants to use algae to create textile colours, which would make it possible from the beginning to design non-toxic, circular end-products. 🌱💧♻️ If you don’t want to miss out on any news from LOCALITY, follow us on our social media channels! #LocalityAlgae #Textiles #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #HorizonEurope
