The new deal presented by Ursula von der Leyen and the European Commission unlocks major opportunities for our members and partners: 💶 More funding, less red tape: The Clean Industrial Deal State Aid Framework simplifies access to funding—part of a €100 billion boost for clean tech production in the EU. 💰 €1 billion for hydrogen projects: The Third Hydrogen Bank Auction will provide significant funding to scale up hydrogen production, a key energy source for green shipping. 🏦 Innovation Fund: With €6 billion allocated for clean tech in 2025, large-scale maritime decarbonization projects will find it easier to move from pilot to full-scale deployment. 🚀 New Horizon Europe funding: A €600 million "Flagship" call for 2026–2027 will support market-ready green innovations, including zero-emission shipping solutions. 🛢️ Sustainable fuels for shipping: The Sustainable Transport Investment Plan prioritizes renewable low-emission fuels for maritime and aviation, supporting the shift to clean energy. ⚡ Stronger hydrogen framework: The EU is clarifying rules on renewable and low-carbon hydrogen, ensuring better conditions for hydrogen as a maritime fuel. As the EU’s hub for green maritime innovation, Maritime CleanTech will closely follow how the Clean Industrial Deal is implemented and what opportunities it creates for our industry. 💡 Want more info? Yesterday, I had the pleasure of guest lecturing at the Norwegian School of Economics on the topic of "Green Shipping - Technologies and Business Opportunities." 🛶It is always inspiring to engage in dialogue with talented and interested students and to discuss how we can drive growth in the green transition together. 👀 𝑺𝒆𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 🧠 In FLAGSHIPS, we have realised not one but two hydrogen-powered vessels on European waterways. Recently, partners of FLAGSHIPS and our «sister» project RH2IWER visited one of them, 𝐇2𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞2, which is currently shipping cargo emission-free in the Rotterdam area. Dirk de Jong of Future Proof Shipping expertly guided us through the vessel's main features, including the fuel cell room. We also heard from the crew about their experiences with the retrofitted vessel and saw them handling the hydrogen container swap 👏 We were joined by our project officer Lionel Boillot of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, Justine Godard of DRIEAT and George Kaplanis of MES Energy, who also engaged in constructive discussions about the milestones we’ve achieved and the road ahead as part of the periodic project review.
