Our Chief Strategy Officer Julien Cossé recently attended the Rencontres Régionales des Pays Nordiques, taking part in an interesting panel discussion on the energy transition. Julien was able to present some key updates on the European electricity market and Nord Pool’s role - illustrating that, despite huge stresses experienced during the period of the energy crisis, our integrated energy market did not break. Julien also pointed out that in 2024, >70% of electricity in the EU is clean, thanks to increased renewables and a rebound in nuclear production, giving hope for the future of decarbonization of the continent. #NordPool #PowerMarket #EnergyTrading #RenewableEnergy #EnergyTransition

Moving Forward with Fallback Procedures   The most recent day-ahead market decoupling incident (June 2024) threw a spotlight on current market fallback procedures, designed to ensure the production of a reliable power price. After close consultation with customers and other energy sector stakeholders, Nord Pool is pleased to share some concrete proposals on potential improvements to fallback procedures which would - we believe - make the production of a robust power price far more likely amidst the confusion often seen in a decoupling scenario. In addition we look at the appropriateness - or otherwise - of local auctions being run by a decoupled power exchange. Congratulations to the Baltic Region. Over the weekend the team at Nord Pool was pleased to see the successful desynchronization of the Baltic region from the legacy Russian power grid - with smooth synchronization, after testing by the relevant Transmission System Operators, into the central European infrastructure. Our Market Manager Baltics, Ingrid Arus, comments: "As the exchange for simple, efficient and secure power trading in the region, we were watching bidding behaviour and prices very closely during the desynchronization period and afterwards. I am delighted to say that everything appears to have gone very well and the market is correctly reflecting prevailing conditions - for example prices fell over the weekend in all Baltic countries, due to lower consumption and good wind conditions."
