We support people in claiming and exercising their rights through information, counselling, legal assistance, capacity building and advocacy. When people are forced to flee and abandon their homes, they stand to lose a range of rights. Legal and institutional frameworks often pose a challenge for people on the move, and with protracted crises on the rise, they also face the risk of being trapped in an uncertain situation for years on end. Discover how NRC’s Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance programme operates in the video below. If your private sector organisation or philanthropy is committed to making a difference, join us as a partner and help us reach even more people. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/dbAZ__q9

Flyktninghjelpen har 15.000 hjelpearbeidere over hele verden.

I’m back in Sudan, where the world’s worst displacement crisis is currently ongoing. 14 million people have been driven from their homes as a result of brutal violence. Millions displaced within the country receive no real aid or protection, and the few remaining safe areas are bursting to the seams. Many of the make-shift camps into which people have crowded are lacking in even the most basic facilities. Most do not have proper sanitation, people can’t get enough to eat, and shelters are improvised and offer little by way of protection or dignity. I started my journey in Port Sudan. Even in this area, which is far more accessible than most parts of Sudan, conditions for those fleeing are desperate. Millions are already crowded into camps, and each month thousands more are forced to flee. In this area, in the eastern part of Sudan, many towns now resemble open-air shelters. The humanitarian crisis in Sudan is vast. It is also entirely man-made. Civilians are paying an appalling price for violence between the armed actors. It is vital that the fighting ceases, and that there is a rapid surge of humanitarian aid into the country. Sudan’s local community response has been heroic. But they must be supported in a way that matches the scale of this crisis. So far the world has largely looked the other way when it comes to the humanitarian tragedy in Sudan. “They came at night. All we heard was: BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!” In places torn apart by violence, children need classrooms for more than just lessons – they’re a place of refuge, stability, and a lifeline to new possibilities. On World Children’s Day, read this powerful story of Sadiki who, against all odds, keeps fighting to learn. #WorldChildrensDay https://lnkd.in/d-gzFkBn

"I like to study. I feel good when I'm at school with my friends. I love learning new things, playing with friends and making new friends," Cristiano says. After witnessing unimaginable horrors and fleeing his home in Muidumbe, Mozambique, Cristiano found comfort in the community of Mueda. Now, he's back in the classroom, catching up on his education and connecting with friends.

Together with our partner, The LEGO Foundation, we support children through an acute humanitarian response mechanism, which allows us to support children in emergencies with education, play and wellbeing by quickly activating funds to respond to urgent needs. In Somalia, where droughts, floods, and violence have displaced thousands, we support children with education and help them cope with stress and recover from traumatic experiences, allowing them to regain a sense of stability, safety and routine. So far, we’ve reached 1,500 displaced children through this effort. Here, students in Kismayo, Jubaland State, are participating in our Better Learning Programme (BLP) within NRC's first-line education response.

Seven years ago, Saba Ayaliw fled violence in South Sudan, seeking safety in Uganda with her two young children. What began in a rural refugee camp quickly transformed as she bravely moved to Arua City to rebuild her life. Today, Saba proudly runs Queen Saba Hotel and a boutique. Guided by our paralegals, she successfully navigated the legal process to register her business and obtaining the necessary trading licenses. With support from NRC's legal aid team, the days of unrecorded payments and sudden shutdowns are now behind her. She’s not only supporting her family but also creating jobs and inspiring her community. “I’m hopeful for the future,” she shares, her trading license displayed proudly.
