🌍 This month, Omtre embarked on a new journey: an #EICPathfinderChallenge Project, called RAW project 🌲 🔍 Apart from funding supporting our #resawmill movement vision, Omtre got access to many #EUeic business accelerator services in the next years. 🛠️ Our CRO, one of the work package leaders, will be trained in exploitation of research and development results and Intellectual Property (IP) Asset management by European experts. 🤝 We're excited about the potential collaborations with researchers, architects, builders, and policymakers to increase the wider uptake of wood reuse solutions. 💥 Nordic Circular Summit - Day 2💥 🌍 How Can Nordic Collaboration Accelerate Circularity in the Construction Sector? A digital session on day 2 of the summit! Some insights on #DesignforDissassemby and #DetachabilityIndex - live from the Saint-Gobain Weber DE plant in the Black Forest region 🇩🇪. When we design for the future, we need to design for disassembly. Let me add one word. We need to design for RAPID disassembly. The design has to be CONVENIENT for the employees who will collect the solution at the end of the service time. ♻️ In the third GA of the Drastic project, our host Dr. Florian Quentin and his team split us in two teams to experience their solution. Drastic’s German Demonstrator aims to exemplify a key circular solution for a majority of German apartment buildings which have inadequate thermal insulation and require renovation to become more energy efficient. The weber.therm circle system is the first ETIC system that can be dismantled and recycled by component type. Once this system has reached the end of its service life, new high-quality items can be obtained from the dismantled parts. The system's main component, thermal insulation material, can be reused, whilst the other composite parts of the system can be recycled as aggregates in the future, with a view to increasing circularity and sustainability. The Weber team built a wall, one part was made of the solution, the other part of the BaU. The user experience was very different for both products. I only needed a few seconds to detach one of the components. Or to use the words of Marie Lamblet - leader of the demonstrations WP: “Wow, it is so easy!” The recovery/destruction of the BaU solution created a lot of inpleasant effects, like a lot of dust. To read more about the Weber solutions: https://lnkd.in/gQs4haFf 🖥️ From experiencing detachability to calculating it … In the same GA, other partner Madaster Netherlands also told us that you can calculate the detachability index recognised by the Dutch Green Building Council. DGBC has developed a methodology for measuring detachability #Detachability is one of the key prerequisites for circular construction, as all the buildings that are constructed today will last at least 50 to 100 years. Understanding the degree of detachability of products and materials incorporated in these buildings, enables careful dismantling and salvaging components for reuse and recycling. Xavier shared some learning experiences about the circular design framework - being developed by VITO - and their product and how it enables detachability. 🌲 In Omtre we also honor detachability. In timber construction it is easy to get a high score. However there are still different definitions. In the Norwegian SirkTRE project we also discuss to go for a new standard on DfD. 🐑 Follow the Drastic project and our communication partner World Green Building Council if you want to stay up to date about this prerequisite.

♻ How can we demonstrate affordability, sustainability and circularity within the European built environment?  ♻ #Drasticproject stakeholders are gathered in Merdingen, Germany, for the project's General Assembly meeting this week, to discuss how the project can provide answers to this key question by pioneering circular initiatives within the European built environment. Sometimes, to make progress, you may just have to tear something down! 🔨 Today at the #DrasticProject General Assembly, the project team swapped laptops and pens for hammers and crowbars to get a firsthand experience of Saint-Gobain Weber DE's circular cladding solution: Weber.Therm Circle. ♻ It’s not just less wasteful, allowing the materials to be readily separated and retain their value, it’s also easier, cleaner and safer, resulting in better air quality on the demolition site.
