Successful At-the-Bit drilling pilot in Oman.   Topi is pleased to announce that a drilling pilot for demonstrating the functionality of the At-the-Bit Mud Loss Control technology during drilling of a commercial oil well in Oman was successful. The At-the-bit tool consists of stacked concentric dual pipes for preloading of a polymer-based formation fracture sealing payload. The tool is fully mechanical operated and all the agreed KPIs were met demonstrating the tool activation for release of the special engineered polymer based AtB Gel™ and de-activation for re-establishing the mud circulation through the inner pipe by dropping of steel balls. No mud loss was observed in this upper 12-¼” well section and all the swelled gel with “encapsulated” drill cuttings were circulated out of the well and collected at the shale shaker. The tool was exposed to very high and fluctuating torque loads and lateral vibrations. The operational team was supervised by Dr. Jafar Abdollahi from Topi with assistance from our technology partners EnergyX in Norway and OOISS in Oman. The At-the-Bit is now ready for commercial services in the Middle East.

Have you ever wondered how #RelativePermeability data curves are obtained? Typically, they are derived through #coreflood experiments conducted in the #SCAL laboratory. The most commonly used methods include steady-state, unsteady-state, and single-speed centrifuge techniques. Which method is better? To answer that simply, take a look at the following illustration and feel free to drop your thoughts 🙂 ! In the saturation interval shown (scattered points), we have actual analytical data that defines the relative permeability. However, to get the full reliable Relperm curve, you need the flow simulation result! Here, we conducted three different experiments, but our goal is to arrive at just one set of relative permeability (Rel Perm) and capillary pressure (Pc) curves. Using #Sendra, we can integrate all three experiments into a single analysis. Sendra applies a multi-scenario approach, resulting in one unified set of curves instead of three separate ones. Achieving this is not as straightforward as it sounds. The experiments often have varying initial conditions and other differing parameters. While it’s not magic, Sendra makes this process possible with its advanced features for multi-scenario analysis. Contact us to learn more! We’ll demonstrate how the new Sendra SaaS performs with its enhanced SCAL flow simulation, SCAL modeling, and integrated SCAL data management and analogues.

I am very pleased to have supervised Yohanes Nuwara at Prores AS in completing his MSc thesis on the use of computer vision to evaluate petrophysical properties. Well done and Congratulations on your successful defense! The results are highly promising, demonstrating that we can successfully predict porosity, permeability, and grain density using only core photos. Yesterday marked my academic milestone: I successfully defended my thesis for my master's degree in business analytics and big data, and deemed the "best presentation" by juror prof. Carlotta Orsenigo. My research is about automatic prediction of core porosity and permeability from core photos using computer vision, developed at Prores. I thank Prores AS for this opportunity and Politecnico di Milano GSOM for the incredible master's experience, especially Muhammad Nur Ali Akbar & Sendra team for tremendous support and guidance, finally yet importantly Eugenio Lomurno for his knowledge and supervising.

Our recent Core-to-Field study integrates core flow simulation with dynamic reservoir modeling. We highlight the importance of combining coreflood simulations, SCAL modeling, and rock typing to effectively capture full-field reserve uncertainty through 3D dynamic reservoir analysis. You can access the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/ddQSX5nE This workflow demonstrates how we optimize RCA and SCAL data to enhance our understanding of both static and dynamic models, improving petrophysical predictions such as saturation below the free water level and permeability estimation. The video below shows the efficiency of automatic history matching for coreflood simulations using web-based Sendra SaaS, achieving excellent results from lab experiments in less than two minutes. I’m excited to share our recent work, presented in collaboration with Ardian Pradhana Putra and Matthew Guy Reppert from Vår Energi , at the Annual Symposium of the Society of Core Analysts (#SCA) in the beautiful city of Fredericton, NB, #Canada. Our paper SCA2024-1026, titled "A Versatile Workflow of Pore Geometry-Structure Rock Typing and Corey Parameter-Based Relative Permeability Trend Modeling" focuses on integrating SCAL modeling and rock typing from core to field applications. This approach enhances our understanding of SCAL uncertainty and improves reserve evaluation in new oil discoveries on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. You can read the full paper on #ResearchGate: https://lnkd.in/ddQSX5nE I look forward to future discussions and collaborations, particularly in core-to-field static and dynamic rock typing and SCAL modeling. This was my second time attending SCA, and I truly enjoyed the camaraderie, networking opportunities, and the high quality of technical presentations and discussions. I'm hopeful to be part of next year’s SCA in #Hannover, #Germany! #Petrophysics #SCAL #RockTyping #ReservoirEngineering #OilAndGas #ResearchAndDevelopment #Networking #SCA2023 #CoreAnalysis #reservoirmodeling #RelativePermeability SCA Admin

I will deliver a technical presentation at the Society of Core Analysts (SCA) Annual Symposium 2024. The topic will be a versatile workflow for pore geometry and pore structure rock typing, along with Corey-based SCAL modeling, and its impact on reserve evaluation in 3D dynamic simulation. This newly developed method has been implemented in Sendra SaaS, featuring seamless integration with the SCAL database and multiphase core flow simulation in a cloud-native environment. We recently applied this workflow in a case study on a recent discovery in the Norwegian Continental Shelf, in collaboration with Ardian Putra and Matthew Guy Reppert from Vår Energi. The symposium will be held in Fredericton, NB, Canada, from August 25-30, 2024. I'm looking forward to meeting and talking about this more at the SCA conference this month.
