Norwegian startup SiriNor is revolutionising electric jet engines with a focus on efficiency and a staged market entry strategy. Unlike traditional central hub motors, their tip-driven engine design places multiple smaller motors around the fan’s outer edge, using compressed air to spin it. "Think of the position of handles on doors. There's a reason why they are located where they are and not near the door hinges. It's to make doors easy to open and close. So why would you rotate a fan at its hub?" explains CEO Ivar Aune. This bold design offers significant advantages: operating temperatures drop from 1600°C to 400°C, enabling the use of standard alloys, simplifying manufacturing, and achieving 20–30% energy savings. But success will hinge on proving their tech, navigating a complex industry, and gaining buy-in from aerospace giants. Dirk Singer dives into SiriNor’s journey and challenges. This week, Norway proudly partnered with India and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) for the 4th Global RE-Invest, held in Ahmedabad. Team Norway, alongside Norwegian Ministry of Energy and industry leaders Statkraft, Aker Solutions, Tidal Sails AS, SiriNor and Norfund hosted an impactful Norway Country Session focused on “Innovating for a Sustainable Energy System”. We had the great honor of welcoming Joint Secretary MNRE, Shri Lalit Bohra, as our special guest, further strengthening the energy partnership between our two nations. 🇳🇴🇮🇳 Congratulations to India on achieving 200GW of renewable energy capacity!
