Aker BP ASA has chosen Remote Chemical Loading as a main technology for loading chemicals to the Hugin A platform in Yggdrasil TESS supplies the solution, developed in collaboration with Aker Solutions and Aker BP. Once in operation, Remote Chemical Loading will increase safety and productivity. Remote Chemical Loading will be delivered to Aker BP in 2025 to be installed on Hugin A, currently being built in Western Norway. Startup of the Yggdrasil area is planned in 2027. “Aker BP is setting a new standard with Yggdrasil through use of technology which will enable low and unmanned operations. The fact that the Remote Chemical Loading system has been chosen as the standard for chemical loading for this development is proof that TESS, in collaboration with Aker BP and Aker Solutions, has succeeded in developing a forward-looking and sustainable solution for the entire offshore market,” says Lars-Otto Fredriksen, Director Fluid Conveyance at TESS, who has been project manager for Remote Chemical Loading since the start in 2018. Remote Chemical Loading is based on input and interest from major operators in the offshore industry. The technology is designed to load up to 28 different chemicals and consumables at the same time in one simultaneous operation through a Multiline Bundle (multi-core hose) from the supply vessel to the offshore platform. The technology enables loading to take place to low and unmanned platforms efficiently and safely. The Multiline bundle is connected to the platform using the platform crane. The connection is placed in a position on the side on the platform to avoid lifting over the installation. HSE and total economy are strong drivers in the technology. Remote Chemical Loading reduces operating time and risk. These necessary and repetitive marine operations, involving chemical loading offshore, widen the weather window and increase efficiency. “The technology minimizes space requirements, weight, complexity, and maintenance requirements on the platform, provided it is implemented in the early design phase of new projects. However, Remote Chemical Loading is also highly suited to installation on existing offshore platforms, as most of the operational benefits can be materialised immediately,” says Fredriksen. “Remote Chemical Loading is a major innovation in offshore bunkering. The solution will help to change bunkering operations in the future in a safe and rational way and is likely to become established as an industry standard – for other offshore industries too,” says Philip Namork, Low Manning and Unmanned Specialist at Aker Solutions.
