Om oss
Snøhetta is an international integrated architecture and design firm. The practice has a global presence, with offices spanning from Oslo, Paris, and Innsbruck, to New York, San Francisco. Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Adelaide and Melbourne. Snøhetta kick-started its career in 1989 with the competition-winning entry for the new library of Alexandria, Egypt. This was later followed by the commission for the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in Oslo, and the National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion at the World Trade Center in New York City, among many others. Since its inception, the practice has maintained its original transdisciplinary approach, and integrates architectural, landscape, interior, product, graphic, digital design and art across its projects. The collaborative nature between Snøhetta's different disciplines is an essential driving force of the practice. Snøhetta is currently working on a wide range of international projects, including the Ordrupgaard Art Museum expansion in Denmark and the Shanghai Grand Opera House. Recently completed works include Le Monde Group Headquarters in Paris, Europe’s first underwater restaurant, Under, the redesign of the public space in Times Square, the expansion to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Lascaux IV: The International Centre for Cave Art, Powerhouse Brattørkaia and the design for Norway’s new banknotes. Snøhetta’s working method practices a simultaneous exploration of traditional handicraft and cutting-edge digital technology. At the heart of all Snøhetta’s work lies a commitment to social and environmental sustainability, shaping the built environment and design in the service of humanism. Snøhetta believes well-conceived design can help things run more efficiently, improve people’s well-being and make life more enjoyable. Every project is designed with strong, meaningful concepts in mind – concepts that can translate the ethos of its users and their context.

We are honoured to collaborate with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) for the second year in a row to design a gingerbread house for their Christmas campaign. All sales and donations will go entirely toward their important work in giving shelter to people in need. This year’s untraditional design consists of five hollow frames that together create a void - symbolizing a home that is no more. «With more than 120 million refugees worldwide, shelter is one of the most important assets we can provide to help those in need. Lives depend on rooms protecting against heat, cold, rain and wind. Our gingerbread non-house will hopefully encourage people to support NRC to fill in the missing walls and roofs,” says Snøhetta co-founder Kjetil Trædal Thorsen. We hope the gingerbread house will contribute on a large scale to NRC’s important work, and at the same time facilitate reflection in a meaningful atmosphere in many Norwegian homes. "This Christmas, like many before, families are without a home after being hit by wars. The gingerbread house illustrates the home that is lost and is both touching and beautiful. The house will be part of many Norwegian homes this Christmas. It is a house that spurs commitment, and it is a house for reflection. We need to do more, and we need to do it together," says Torstein Bae, spokesperson of the Norwegian Refugee Council. Before the skiing season starts, we are happy to share a few summer impressions of our timber viewing tower in Alpbach. The alpine landmark in the Tyrolean Alps is located at 2030 meters above sea level. The timber building is clad with typical regional shingles handmade by a local shingle maker. Traditional Tyrolean farmhouse parlors inspired the design of the panoramic room with its informal seating landscape. Large panorama windows provide light and a far-reaching view of the breathtaking scenery and surrounding mountains. The project also builds on the tradition of alpine shelters. As keyless structure, it is open to the public all year round. The panorama room can be used by hikers in summer and skiers, snowshoe walkers, and ski tourers in winter. Tomorrow, November 26, Patrick Lüth, Snøhetta Partner and Managing Director of our Innsbruck Studio will give a lecture at the BIM World Munich. For many years, digital tools have helped to drive our creative processes and expand our design possibilities. By switching between analogue and digital, between traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge digital technology, design ideas can be tested in different media and sometimes we can take advantage of a seamless transition from design to production. The LOVT Vibe project in Munich’s Werksviertel district is being planned in depth using BIM. This opens up new possibilities, but how can we turn BIM into a tool that expands our design capabilities? In his talk at 11.50 on Congress Stage 1, Patrick will present our creative processes and discuss the question of creativity and digital tools. The event will take place at the ICM – International Congress Center of Messe Munich (Munich Trade Fair).
