***REMINDER*** Webinar - Supporting the routine use of evidence during the policy-making process: a WHO checklist Launched in 2024, the Global Coalition for Evidence from the World Health Organization aims to foster Collaboration, Coordination, and Consolidation to increase evidence use in decision-making and empower local leadership for global impact. The establishment of a working group on evidence-informed policy-making (EIPM) institutionalization is focused on providing the Coalition with a community dedicated to strengthening policy processes, promoting sustainability, and offering a structured approach to embedding evidence in decision-making. In 2025, a series of 07 webinars on the domains of EIPM institutionalization will be held, to debate experiences around the world of using the "Supporting the routine use of evidence during the policy-making process: a WHO checklist" tool. The first webinar will take place on January 23, 2025 at 1pm (GMT) and will be focused on presenting an overview of the tool and its use in Thailand. Exciting news! 🎉 The 2nd What Works Climate Solutions Summit is coming in 2026! 🎉 Building on the success of our inaugural summit and consistent engagement from the community, we are thrilled to once again bring together scientists, policy-makers, and other users of evidence to pave the way forward for evidence-based climate solutions. With continued support from our esteemed scientific steering committee—including representatives from Cochrane, The Campbell Collaboration, Collaboration for Environmental Evidence, IPCC, and other leading institutions—we’re sure this will be an even bigger, better, and more inclusive summit! The next summit presents a unique opportunity to make a step-change in evidence-based climate policy. By building a stronger evidence base, we can provide essential insights for the IPCC and inform the Global Stocktake in international climate change negotiations, ultimately driving more effective global climate action. While we are still finalizing the date, we’re actively exploring the ideal location to host the next summit in mid-2026. Stay tuned for more updates, and feel free to reach out directly via e-mail at info@wwcs.science for inquiries about hosting, sponsorship, or partnership opportunities. Please specify one of these topics in the subject line. #ClimateSolutions #ClimatePolicy #ClimateScience 📸: Tina Eichner featuring the inaugural WWCS Summit in 2024

🌟 The Complexities of Impact Work for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) 🌟 I recently read this article that renders visible the challenges and contradictions ECRs face in balancing societal impact with academic career progression. The authors do a great job of both presenting how this is a relatively new challenge and ways in which it could be meaningfully addressed: 👉 ECRs are increasingly navigating a research environment where societal impact is gaining prominence alongside traditional academic achievements. 👉 Despite policy signals valuing impact, ECRs face tension between dedicating time to impactful work and meeting established success metrics like publications and funding. 👉 The precarious nature of early academic careers, coupled with time constraints, insufficient organisational support, highly mobile careers, and reward structures that undervalue impact, limits the ability of ECRs to fully engage in impactful activities. What needs to change: 🔶 To support ECRs, impact must be integrated into academic reward frameworks, including recruitment and promotion criteria. 🔶 Providing incentives and fostering long-term capacity-building are crucial steps forward. 🔶 My reflections: For ECRs to dedicate time for impact work, academia must rethink its reward structures, making impact an integral part of success criteria rather than an optional risk. Impact work is about trust, connections and relationships, it takes time to foster this. So at the heart of the challenge is the precarious contracts and high levels of mobility, which make it really difficult for ECRs. Providing more location-stable opportunities and clearer career pathways can enable ECRs to build lasting relationships with research users, crucial for impactful work. #EarlyCareerResearchers #ResearchImpact #HigherEducation #SocietalImpact
