Curious about how much your stock options are really worth? 💰 Let's break it down! One can find the total value of the stock options by multiplying the share price by the number of stock options. This value is indicative, as the actual value of stock not listed on a stock exchange is only known when selling the shares. The potential gains are then calculated by subtracting the total stock option value from the total exercise price. 🧐 How does it look like in an real setting? Astrid, an employee at Unlisted, holds 1,000 stock options. The current share price is 500kr per share, while the exercise price—what she needs to pay to purchase the shares before selling them—is set to 200kr per share. First, calculate the total value of the stock options: 1000 x 500 = 500 000kr Then, calculate the total exercise price: 1000 x 200 = 200 000kr Finally, calculate the potential gains: 500 000kr - 200 000kr = 300 000kr If Astrid exercises her stock options today, with the shares selling at 500kr each, she would make a profit of 300,000kr. Stock options are a good way to encourage loyalty and ownership in the company's success. Know the cost before you exercise! 💵 The exercise price is what the employee must pay per stock option to buy shares when and if they decide to exercise their options. Sometimes referred to as the “strike price.” 🔎 Let’s look at an example: Astrid, an employee at Unlisted, holds 1,000 stock options. The exercise price, what she needs to pay to purchase the shares before selling them, is set to 200kr per share. Total Exercise Price = Number of Stock Options × Exercise Price 1000 x 200 = 200 000kr Astrid needs to pay 200 000kr to transform her stock options into shares. Stock options are a good way to encourage loyalty and ownership in the company's success.
