When Xeneta released the 2024 Air Freight Outlook report 12 months ago, the market was set for a return of ‘classic seasonality’, finally leaving the chaos of the Covid-19 era behind. What has transpired is yet another turbulent year - primarily due to the dramatic rise of e-commerce out of Asia and the impact of conflict in the Red Sea. With these market forces set to spill over into 2025, there is much to consider for the year ahead. If you've got some time over the holidays, the 2025 Air Freight Outlook is the perfect review of 2024 market activity and predictions for the key trends shaping Air Freight in 2025. When asked how critical the role of fact-based information is in current turbulent times, Peter Sand, Chief Analyst at Xeneta, shared the following: “Having access to trustworthy insights and reliable data on global supply chains during times like this is business critical. You gotta know what is facts – not fiction. Reliable insights helps you keep calm and make informed decisions, enabling you to carry in a world of uncertainty – without losing grip of the essentials.” This is especially true in light of the US proposing a new tax on Chinese-built ships, and other tariff and sanction related measures that could further disrupt global trade dynamics: https://lnkd.in/eddEcWeZ If you're interested in learning more about Trade Wars & Supply Chain Disruptions, join Sand later this morning – alongside Christian Roeloffs, Andrea Monti and Amanda Marr – as they discuss how resilience in container logistics. Did you know, high performing organisations use 20% more data than low performing organisations? They are also more likely to collaborate with suppliers and plan for risk — whether it's internal frictions or external disruptions. Ingrid Gonzalez McCarthy noted at the 2024 Gartner's Supply Chain Symposium that high performing organisations are successfully using intangibles to draw out additional value from tangible assets. Intangibles include investing in talent, data literacy, strategic thinking and risk measures. And data literacy, strategic thinking and risk measures start with having access to the right data. If you're interested in seeing firsthand how an ocean and air freight intelligence partner can help your organisation accurately forecast the market and support the resiliency of global supply chains, come talk to Xeneta at #TPM25. Eunice Medina, Katina Tomassello, Matthew Hernandez, Reda Beloui, Charlie O'Connor, Hilary Rudd, Erik Devetak, Fernando Pazmino, Fabio Brocca, Lauren Africano and Jon Fouquier will be on hand over the three days to give exploratory meetings for those keen to see the insights you can draw from our 500M+ crowdsourced data points. Fabio Brocca recently joined Product Thinking with Melissa Perri to discuss how organisations like Xeneta are helping to resolve inefficiencies in freight procurement, grant access to personalised insights based on 500M crowdsourced datapoints, and transition the logistics industry to indexing. Here's just a small part of the interview: "if today you are a big company, and you're shipping hundreds of thousands of containers, you have two options. You can go and buy on the spot market, or you can sign a contract. And if you have a lot of volume, you sign a contract to secure a better price. "The problem with when you sign a contract is that this market is very volatile. We have seen costs of shipping a container going from $20,000 to $50. So the market moves a lot and it depends on a multitude of factors such as geopolitical events, tariffs, port strikes, suez canal closure – there is always something happening. "The second challenge is that the market is very opaque. The market participations don't really know what the rates should be in the market... "...as a Xeneta customer, usually you do all the contract negotiation and then your market position remains pretty much what it was before the negotiation - then why do we do this in the first place? Could we just attach our contracts to an index and follow that?" Listen to the whole interview using the link in the comments. #indexing #supplychain #procurement #freight

Just returned from my first Manifest: The Future of Supply Chain & Logistics in Las Vegas, and what a great experience it was! The main theme—Generative AI and..... AI agents, AI agents, AI agents, AI agents, AI agents :) — The biggest takeaway from the talks was clear: Data is paramount in building solid insights. That’s exactly why I think Xeneta stands out as the most reliable source of freight market intelligence. A highlight for me was Lars Jensen’s insightful talk on the future of ocean freight rates and geopolitics—a topic that couldn’t be more relevant right now. And, of course, it was great catching up with industry friends like Merebeth Knox and Eric Topp! Excited to bring these insights into action. Until next time, Manifest! ✨
