Challenge - BUYO Bioplastics, Greencovery and TripleW - pitched their plans to find a valuable use for Kikkoman's soy cake waste stream. UCC Coffee Benelux BV (NL)'s top two - DNV - Energy Systems and Summit Engineering (a joint entry) and Equans BeLux - presented their innovative ideas to roast coffee using hydrogen as a fuel. And the winners are.... BUYO and DNV and Summit Engineering🎉 The winning pitchers will now continue to explore collaboration with Kikkoman and UCC, and present their innovations at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka 🗾 Let the innovating begin!

I had a great time discussing sustainable fuel production pathways at Infocast’s Global Clean Hydrogen 2024 Conference. My fellow panelists, Erika Taugher Rietze and Christopher Efird , offered some great insights into their projects. The audience asked a lot of questions about the economics of sustainable fuels like SAF, clean ammonia, e-methane and e-methanol. We face many challenges to the adoption of clean fuels but I’m optimistic that a slow start can accelerate as technical and business models continue to innovate. COP29 – Week 1 coming to an end. It’s been quite the week. 🗣 President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and UN Secretary António Guterres welcomed heads of state and government. 🎯 Targets. Call for Ambitious Climate Plans as part of the next NDC submissions in 2025 (NDC 3.0). 🌦 Climate Impacts and Inflation. Climate impacts are clear and getting worse. We are no longer talking about the next generation; such is the speed of change! 📈 Higher climate-related costs could "put inflation on steroids," warns Simon Stiell, UNFCCC Executive Secretary. 🛢 Clean Investment. Good news is that $2 trillion will flow to clean energy and infrastructure in 2024, double the investment in fossil fuels. 💰 Finance. More grant and concessional finance will need to be available. 🎖 Carbon Removals. Ahead of COP, an agreement was reached on standards to operationalize a new UN crediting mechanism. The Article 6.4 Supervisory Body, responsible for creating the UN carbon market under the Paris Agreement, adopted standards for methodologies and GHG removals. As leaders head to the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, the world expects strong signals that climate action is core business for the world’s biggest economies. A couple of weeks ago, I attended The Shell Energy Symposium 2024 in Charlotte, NC. It was interesting to hear from Shell speakers and its customers about their efforts to de-fossilize/de-carbonize their operations. One of the highlights of The Shell Energy Symposium was the collaboration between Team Penske and Shell which is about performing in a demanding environment. We also learned about Team Penske's efforts to reduce their carbon footprint. We had the chance to learn more about Team Penske's activities and preparations for the races. We were given a tour of their facilities and met Joey Logano's team. I would like to thank Shell Energy for giving me the opportunity to bring DNV's perspective into the discussion. I was honored to be part of the panel: "Sustainability in Action: Driving Toward a Cleaner Future," which Jesse Saldivar did a great job moderating. I learn about the experiences of my co-panelists, Kate Jostworth , MS SCM and Dean Bushey. One of my takeaways from the symposium was that we must form the right partnerships to accelerate de-fossilization/de-carbonization. I guess we could add another "P" to the Shell motto and say Partnerships Powering Progress Together.
