This week, #INC5 takes center stage as global efforts to reform plastic governance intensify. Meanwhile, organic materials and residues offer immense potential as alternatives to plastics and valuable resources for protein, energy, fertilizers, carbon capture, and ecosystem #regeneration. Unlocking these opportunities requires efficient material separation, innovation, and robust value-chain governance—underpinned by organized strategies. Already, 75 countries have adopted circular economy roadmaps, and this number continues to grow. These plans must address both the technical and organic material cycles in the economy, ensuring holistic and sustainable solutions. The butterfly diagram, developed by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation based on research by Michael Braungart and William McDonough, provides a comprehensive framework for circularity across sectors. Using this model, The SMEP Programme has mapped its projects in Africa and South Asia, showcasing how organic and technical material loops complement each other. Paramendo Nepal was part of the Green Blue Education Forum (GBEF.SDG) project, where we presented Paramendo and our works to Japan's young audience. It was amazing to hear the pitch and ideas from the young minds of Japan on saving the environment. Paramendo's message with the whole presentation was to mind our actions because it does leave a lasting impact and let's please think about our environment.
