NYC pol demands probe of pricey unregistered cars seen being towed from shelter: ‘Abuse of taxpayer dollars’

A Brooklyn lawmaker is demanding a probe of the city’s controversial migrant tent shelter at Floyd Bennett Field after she recorded at least five pricey unregistered cars being towed from the encampment over the weekend.

Assemblywoman Jaime Williams said she was stunned when she discovered that the migrants there either bought or had access to minty new cars, noting it was unlikely that the asylum-seekers have driver’s licenses.

“Why are we continuing to put up with his lawlessness? This has to be investigated at all levels. It’s an abuse of taxpayer dollars,” Williams told The Post.

“How did migrants get access to these cars? They are not run of the mill cars. These were new vehicles,” added the Democrat, who represents the neighborhoods of Canarsie, Georgetown, Mill Basin, Marine Park, Bergen Beach and Gerritsen Beach near the federal park.

The Post first reported Saturday on the cars — including two Toyota Sequoia SUVs and a Toyota Sienna with Florida dealer plates — being towed from the encampment.

They were parked illegally on the grass, which is parkland.

During the bizarre scene, which unfolded Friday night, one migrant was seen pleading to get access to the towed vehicle.

Williams, who shared video of the incident on Facebook, said federal, state and local authorities must investigate.

“There might be more here than it appears. We don’t know if cartels are involved,” she said Monday.

The US Parks Department, under the Biden administration, allowed Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams to use a portion of Floyd Bennett Field — federal parkland — to house migrants.

The city runs the encampment, which the state is funding. Migrants housed there have previously knocked on nearby doors and begged neighbors for money, food and clothing.

Williams blamed President Biden for the crisis that has negatively impacted her 59th District and the Big Apple as a whole, saying that federal authorities have failed to secure the US-Mexico border, allowing waves of thousands of migrants to stream into the city and strain resources.

“The Biden Administration has turned a blind eye to his migrant crisis — 100 percent,” she said.

Williams also told Fox News on Monday, “We have this lawlessness happening in New York City, especially in my district in southeast Brooklyn. … Our residents have become benefactors of the lawlessness of these migrants.”

Solving the migrant crisis has become a “bipartisan fight,” Williams said, noting she works closely with Republican Queens Councilwoman Joann Ariola, whose district also borders Floyd Bennett Field.

“It affects everyone in our district,” she said.

“I don’t know why people are afraid to step up to the plate. But we need to do this sooner than later. We owe it to every taxpaying American,” she told Fox.

The US Parks Department and the Hochul and Adams administrations had no immediate comment.
