Congratulations to Auckland University of Technology's Professor Sergei Gulyaev, who has been awarded the Royal Society Te Apārangi Thomson Medal. The award recognises 'outstanding contributions to the organisation, support and application of science and technology' for Sergei's leadership and contributions to research and teaching in radio astronomy, earth science, and space science! 📡 🌌 🌏

We have many talented staff in AUT School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences and every year we take the opportunity to recognise exceptional effort and achievement with the ECMS Staff Awards. 🏆✨ 📑Our 2024 Learning & Teaching Awards went to Dr Jing Ma (Early Career Award), Dr Ramesh Lal (Learning & Teaching Excellence), Dr Daniel Konings and Dr Tet Chuan Lee (Team Award) and Dr Catherine Sweatman (Learning & Teaching Leadership). 🙌 Professional and Technical Staff Awards went to Cheryll Uy (AUT Values), Louise Burnett (Innovation Award), Andrew Choo (Culture Award), Bumjun Kim (Facilitation Award), and the ECMS Finance & Operations Team – including Joyce D'Mello, Suzette Orquejo, Liza Slako, Eunice Wang, CA Wang and Saide L. (Facilitation - Team Award). 🚀 Research Awards were presented to Prof Jack Li (Research Excellence), Innovation of Robotics & Vision (Research Team), Dr Weihua LI (PhD Supervision Award), Assoc Prof Samaneh (Sam) Madanian (Early Career Award) and Prof Sarat Singamneni (Research Leadership). 👏 School Awards went to Prof Xiaowen Yuan for External Engagement, and Prof Minh Nguyen for the People’s Choice Award. The Head of School Awards went to Dr Ramesh Lal and the Registrar & Academic Administration Team (including Jamie Protheroe, Sandelyn Lua, Sharda Mujoo, Sunki Min, Carolyn Zhu, Cheryll Uy, Charlie Tu'u, Chris Nguyen, Ma'ata Vakalahi and Tanya Savage). Atlassian software engineers - #alumni Bob Liou and Hajin Kim gave a great presentation today, about their roles, the variety of tools they work with, and the customer base they serve. It was evident how much they enjoy what they do! #Softwareengineering is certainly their passion! They are fantastic ambassadors for their organisation. Students were provided with a lot of helpful tips to help them succeed in joining Atlassian. Great to have you both on-campus and we look forward to working more closely with Atlassian going forward. Also good to hear your comments about how important project work while studying is, in advancing opportunities post uni!

Sandfield – providing #software that gives you an edge - thankyou for visiting us on-campus, hosting you was a pleasure.  We enjoyed hearing about this Ponsonby based software consultancy - a heavy emphasis on custom software solutions, with a skilled & specialised workforce. Computer science students learnt about Sandfield’s key teams and areas; supply chain software; integration services (the black magic team!); “develop from a blank canvas” team; and the #enterprise financial management system specialists.
