We’re excited to say we've begun welcoming our Auckland people into our new global headquarters and Northern Regional office at 124 Halsey Street in Wynyard Quarter. We're honoured to have been gifted a name for our new workplace by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, at a ceremonial dawn blessing hosted by Precinct. Beca has been working with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei since the early stages of this project. The name Te Paeroa Taumatua, Te Paeroa Kaiata, Te Paeroa o te Kawau references Beca’s legacy of leadership and contributions to Tāmaki Makaurau; its continual pursuit of innovation and improvement; and the building’s location. It is the third line, Te Paeroa o te Kawau, by which our workplace will be commonly known. Te Paeroa o te Kawau means ‘The shoreline of the kawau’. It acknowledges that the site was once part of Te Waitematā and was frequented by the kawau (the cormorant or shag), which features prominently in tribal narratives of the Tāmaki Makaurau area. We acknowledge the responsibility we now have to embed Te Paeroa o te Kawau in our everyday conversations and we’re looking forward to sharing more about its meaning with whānau, friends and clients! As Te Rā o Waitangi (Waitangi Day) is coming up on February 6 here in Aotearoa New Zealand, we’re taking the opportunity to reflect on the events of the past year. 2024 was a significant year for New Zealand where we saw the introduction of the Treaty Principles Bill to Parliament and thousands of New Zealanders responded to that by taking part in the Hīkoi mō Te Tiriti and making submissions on the Bill. It was the year of the historic hui-ā-motu; and the year in which we lost Kīngi Tūheitia and witnessed the coronation of Kuini Nga wai hono i te po. It was also a significant year for Beca, in which we released our Position Statement on Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Te Ahi Tūtata (our Māori business team) then worked on an in-house learning module on Te Tiriti o Waitangi, to give everyone at Beca the opportunity to learn more about one of the founding documents of Aotearoa and some of New Zealand’s history. We’re proud to say we’ve now made the module available to all of our people across the Beca Group, and it will become part of our onboarding modules in New Zealand. Watch the video to hear Managing Director – New Zealand Andrea Rickard and Kaiwhakatere Jason Tate reflect on the past year. #WaitangiDay #Beca #MakeEverydayBetter

Take a real-world challenge. Over two days, bring together 30 awesome engineering interns and watch them collaborate, innovate and find solutions for a more sustainable future. That’s exactly what happened at the Taranaki Energy Hackathon, where teams of interns took the challenge of tackling the future of our energy system. Andrew Wallace, our Industrial Energy Lead who led the event, says, "Our young people will be the ones to inherit the energy system, so why not ask them to design it?” In March, energy leaders will workshop the winning team’s idea into a practical framework. The interns will also have the unique opportunity to hear directly from these leaders on how their idea could be implemented. Designed and led by Beca, the event was made possible with sponsorship from Venture Taranaki Trust and support from industry leaders Parkwind, Todd Energy, PowerCo, Hiringa Energy, AreAke Methanex Corporation Fonterra and Copenhagen Offshore Partners. A big thanks also to the judges Eleanor Grant from Beca, James Irvine from Clarus Tina Schirr from BusinessNZ and Stacey Hitchcock from Venture Taranaki. #Hackathon #FutureEnergySystem #Beca #MakeEverydayBetter

What a beautiful morning last week to join Auckland Transport’s blessing of the new access ramp at Homai Station with mana whenua, Ngāti Te Ata Waiohua. This is an important piece in a long-term programme of work being carried out by AT with its partners KiwiRail and NZTA to remove and replace level crossings to help keep traffic moving and improve safety. Access to Homai Station is now safer ahead of next year’s City Rail Link opening, as well as improvements for the local blind and low vision community.
