Igniting Youth Potential in Āotearoa New Zealand

About us

Big Brothers Big Sisters equips Mentors with the ability to ignite potential and build resilience in young people all over Aotearoa New Zealand. As a part of the world’s largest volunteer mentoring network, we make professionally supervised mentoring matches between adults and young people in 12 regions across the country. Partnering with whānau, schools, businesses and others in the community, Big Brothers Big Sisters carefully pairs children and young people with screened, trained volunteer mentors and monitors and supports the matches throughout their course. Research shows that our mentoring works - just one hour, once a week, makes a lasting difference in the life of a child. Igniting Youth Potential!

  • I costs over $2400 per year for one match to be supported by our amazing and professional Mentoring Coordinators. This involves induction, training, supervision, support and events. The work our coordinators do is essential to the safety and wellbeing of everyone on our programme. Our branches need you to support us so that we can support them. Donate small or large today. Every little bit helps us to keep doing this important mahi; providing rangatahi with positive role models Ngā mihi. https://lnkd.in/g3Hzw9ap

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Zealand extends our deepest sympathies and aroha to the family and colleagues of Senior Sergeant Lyn Fleming—a woman and officer of great integrity, kindness, and unwavering commitment to her community. This is a devastating tragedy for Lyn’s family, our New Zealand Police whānau, and communities across the country, particularly in Nelson. We also send our heartfelt wishes for a full and swift recovery to Senior Sergeant Adam Ramsay, a valued Big Brothers Big Sisters Nelson-Tasman Board Member. Our close partnership with the New Zealand Police allows us to understand the profound ripple effects of this senseless event on those who knew and loved Lyn. We share in the grief. We are heartbroken. Aroha mai.

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteer mentors are truly the heart of our mission. Their dedication to mentoring is a gift that changes lives, not just for the taiohi they mentor but for entire communities. These amazing individuals give their time, energy, and compassion to create meaningful connections, inspiring young people to dream bigger, achieve more, and navigate life's challenges with confidence. Through their unwavering support, mentors become role models, cheerleaders, and trusted friends—offering a listening ear, a guiding hand, and a steady presence when it’s needed most. They remind us all of the power of human connection and the difference one person can make in another's life. We are deeply grateful for their generosity, commitment, and belief in the potential of every young person. Their kindness leaves a lasting legacy of hope and possibility, and we can’t thank them enough for making a difference, one child at a time. Ngā mihi!
