  • Marathon in a Month is now LIVE throughout November! Being physically active is one of the best forms of cancer prevention we know of and is accessible to most people. That's why we're encouraging people to take up the challenge of completing 42km of movement throughout the month of November. Every step helps make a positive difference to your own health and wellbeing. You can also help others by raising funds throughout the challenge that will help support the important work of the Cancer Society. Covering 42km over the next 30 days may sound daunting for some, but it's all about moving at your own pace, and choosing an activity that works for you. It only takes 1.4km, or approximately 2000 steps, per day to complete the challenge. It's free to join, and you can sign up as an individual or team - simply set yourself a goal and start clocking up those kilometres! Head to https://lnkd.in/gS5Xtfd5 to get involved.

  • September 24 is World Cancer Research Day, and we are excited to share promising results from a recent study supporting our Radiation Therapists! Funded by a Cancer Society Wellington Division research grant, a recent study at Christchurch Radiation Oncology Centre shows how Professional Supervision enhances career growth and reduces burnout. Twelve Radiation Therapists reported increased guidance, job satisfaction, and emotional support, leading to better patient care. Professional Supervision enabled them to reflect on their practice, feel valued, and improve their skills. These findings could lead to nationwide implementation, transforming the way Radiation Therapists manage workplace stress and burnout. This research has exciting potential for a nationwide impact, improving care for patients and well-being for healthcare workers across Aotearoa New Zealand. Since the study began in 2022, Cancer Society Wellington Division has directly contributed over $980,000 worth of funding towards cancer related research. “Our ability to fund such research is only made possible thanks directly to the unwavering support of our donors and supporters” says Darryl Carpenter, Cancer Society Wellington Division CEO. “Due to the fundraising initiatives such as Daffodil Day and Relay For Life, along with our regular givers and bequests, the continuous generosity shown by our communities throughout our Division illustrates how much they value our efforts to reduce the incidence and impact of cancer in Aotearoa. They should be proud in knowing they are enabling tangible, positive impacts not only for their region, but for the nation as a whole”. If you would like to read more about this study, or join our community of supporters contributing to valuable research - not only in cancer prevention and treatment, but also in supporting those who are caring for others through their cancer journey - please follow this link: https://lnkd.in/ge6NGmFq #CancerResearch #Healthcare #RadiationTherapy #BurnoutPrevention #CancerCare #CareerDevelopment

  • Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Rā Daffodil! Welcome to Daffodil Day! It’s my pleasure to be out and about in Pōneke Wellington today collecting donations on behalf of Cancer Society Wellington Division this Daffodil Day. If you see people in your communities with a Cancer Society Daffodil Day collector’s vest and donation bucket, please consider making a donation. Our collectors are also equipped to take donations via mobile EFTPOS machines or QR Code for those without cash. In exchange for your kind donation, you’ll receive a paper Daffodil from our volunteer collectors that you can display proudly on your clothing, showing your support for the 1 in 3 Kiwis who will be affected by cancer in their lifetime. Why the daffodil?  The daffodil is recognised around the world as a symbol of hope for people impacted by cancer. It’s the first flower of spring, bringing light after the cold, dark winter days and is the flower of hope for a new beginning. Please join me and donate TODAY: https://lnkd.in/gGJTSy9 Ngā mihi nui / Thank you very much  Darryl Carpenter Chief Executive Officer, Cancer Society Wellington Division #DaffodilDayNZ

  • By donating this Daffodil Day, you are supporting the 1 in 3 Kiwis that will be affected by cancer in their lifetime. Kiwis like Luke, a 38-year-old husband and father of two boys.  Luke was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer and needed significant invasive treatment, including surgery and chemotherapy, to remove cancer cells that had spread elsewhere in his body. Alongside supporting Luke through his cancer journey, Cancer Society was there to provide the much-needed wraparound support for Luke’s whānau too. You can help ensure this support continues for all New Zealanders and their families facing cancer by donating this Daffodil Day. Please donate today: https://lnkd.in/gGJTSy9  #DaffodilDayNZ

  • Kia ora koutou! Hello everyone! This coming Friday is Daffodil Day and no doubt by now you’ve seen bright yellow daffodils popping up all around your communities. Daffodil Day is a chance to show your friends and whānau affected by cancer they’re not alone. Sadly, 1 in 3 Kiwis will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. It’s the generosity of New Zealanders on Daffodil Day that help people diagnosed with cancer and their whānau get the care and practical support they need. This could come in the form of using our free driving service to help cancer patients access treatment, accommodation for those needing life-saving treatment far from home, through to specialist nursing, counselling and psychological support.    Daffodil Day is also about donating today in order to protect future generations of New Zealanders tomorrow by helping to fund world-leading cancer research and vital cancer prevention programmes.    Please keep an eye out for the many volunteers collecting donations for Cancer Society all around the Greater Wellington region and Aotearoa this week. If you can, please donate to help the 1 in 3. Thank you for your support this Daffodil Day. Ngā mihi nui / Thank you very much.
