Cholmondeley kicked off its centenary celebrations with a Kids Movie Night over the weekend. Our children and their families enjoyed a sausage sizzle, popcorn, and watching a movie on the big outdoor screen. This was the first in a series of special events we are holding to celebrate Cholmondeley’s 100th anniversary. Head to our website to see what else is planned: https://lnkd.in/grBFvH-E #100yearsofcholmondeley #cholmondeleychildrenscentre

Take a look at this beautiful letter from one of our children who stayed at Cholmondeley recently. "The most happy thing is you let us kids get away from the adult problems. You help us understand that we don't need to worry about them! So thanks for doing your job! To all the staff: keep on shining!" Join us for a night under the stars on February 21st and help us continue to 'shine' in the lives of Canterbury children. Preparations are in full swing to get the Centre ready for its Open Day on March 15th. Earlier this week we had a team from Ambrosia Nurseries and our friends Sharon Ballantyne and Kerry Turner volunteer their time to work on our front garden. They also very kindly donated a number of plants to improve the space - thank you! Last week our tamariki visited Sharon at the local Waitahuna Garden homestead to continue planting and potting strawberries which will also be part of the Open Day. Congratulations and thank you to Nuk Korako and Nettles Lamont on completing their ride from Cape Reinga to Wellington over the weekend. Together they cycled more than 1,000km in less than two weeks to raise money for Cholmondeley Children's Centre. What a ride! Thank you so much for putting in such an incredible amount of effort to support Cholmondeley ❤ #100yearsofcholmondeley #cholmondeleychildrenscentre #canterburynz

At the end of 2024 our Car Raffle prize winners were drawn from a box of almost 3,000 tickets. We have been in touch with the first prize winner and here is their story. For Christmas, Jani-King New Zealand kindly gifted each of its staff members a Car Raffle ticket, supporting Cholmondeley, and giving their staff the chance to win a special prize just in time for Christmas. One lucky Jani-King (NZ) staff member received the call during his summer break to let him know he had won first prize. He said he was, "overwhelmed with gratitude and humbled" by the win, and "incredibly thankful" for both the prize and the work Cholmondeley does in the community. He also shared a personal connection to Cholmondeley's mission - over many years, he and his wife had fostered young children in need of loving homes. What a wonderful story 💗 Pictured is ILAM TOYOTA Branch Manager, Paul Taylor and Nick James, Chief Executive of Jani-King (NZ) accepting the car on behalf of the prize winner. #100yearsofcholmondeley #cholmondeleychildrenscentre #charity #canterburynz

Nuk Korako and Nettles Lamont have reached the final few days of their fundraising ride down the North Island and they want to celebrate the end of the journey with the Cholmondeley community. This Saturday, January 25th, they will arrive at the Beehive in Wellington to mark the end of their ride. Nuk and Nettles would like to invite alumni and members of the public to celebrate this achievement at 11.30am. “We want to get as many Cholmondeley alumni along as possible. We want to shout out to anybody in the Wellington region who has been associated with Cholmondeley to come along and join in the fun,” said Cholmondeley Board Chair Nettles Lamont. The pair want to thank everyone for their support so far and with just three days left on their bikes, now is the time to show our gratitude for what they have done for Cholmondeley. “Thank you everybody for all the support and the messages we really need it, keep them coming, please support us. We’ve got the Givealittle page, we’re getting there day by day and it’s all for the tamariki of Cholmondeley,” said Nettles. Cholmondeley's Patron, Nuk Korako and Board Chair, Nettles Lamont, have completed an incredible nine days of cycling to fundraise for and celebrate 100 years of Cholmondeley Children's Centre. Starting their journey from Cape Reinga on Saturday 11th January, the pair are riding the length of the North Island with the goal of meeting as many alumni as they can along the way. If you are interested in meeting with Nuk and Nettles, please get in touch with Cholmondeley. They are currently in the Manawatū-Whanganui region and invite any former Cholmondeley children or staff to get in touch for a cup of tea and a chat about their experience. “It’s such a privilege to meet our Cholmondeley whānau and such a fantastic way to see our beautiful country,” said Nettles Lamont. Nuk and Nettles plan to complete the ride by January 26th. Inspired by our friend René Heyde who biked across Australia for Cholmondeley last year, Cholmondeley's Patron Nuk Korako and Chairperson Nettles Lamont have taken on their own challenge - The Great 100 Year Bike Ride for Cholmondeley. Together, Nuk and Nettles plan to cycle the length of New Zealand's North Island together to fundraise for and celebrate 100 years of Cholmondeley Children's Centre. This is Nuk's second ride raising money for a cause close to his heart. In 2022 he rode from Christchurch to Bluff raising funds for a young woman in need of life-changing surgery. Nettles and Nuk started at Cape Reinga on Saturday 11th January and hope to take two weeks to pedal the 1,400 kilometres to Wellington. Following the North Island journey a South Island ride will begin in late March or April, with corporate teams encouraged to join for 150 km segments. Further details to come. During their ride (highlighted in green) Nuk and Nettles also aim to connect with Cholmondeley alumni to hear stories of their time at the centre. If you are interested in meeting with them, please get in touch with Cholmondeley. We are so grateful for Nuk and Nettles' support and wish them all the best on their adventure.
