Does correlation mean causation? In this case we think it does. Two of our committee members have been celebrating conference wins over the last couple of weeks; Alex Cartwright and Liam Foster.   Alex from Tonkin + Taylor won the best presentation at the Water New Zealand Stormwater Conference for his paper on “Defining resilience: a prerequisite for effective flood management”. This award is voted for by the conference attendees who had over 50 presentations to vote for, so not only did Alex’s presentation stand out from the crowd but he was engaging enough for people to vote for him – not a mean feat when your presentation is scheduled for the last half hour of the day just before the conference drinks start!   Liam from WSP in New Zealand won the Hynds Pipe Systems Limited best paper at the Āpōpō Congress. Liam’s paper “Embracing sponge cities: A nature-based approach to urban climate change adaption in Aotearoa New Zealand” really resonated with the audience as a call to action to change our urban areas to work with water rather than fighting against it.   We’re really pleased to have Alex and Liam as part of our #CIWEM committee here in Aotearoa. Keen to hear more about CIWEM in the land of the long white cloud?
