According to our partner @KnowBe4: "Over 74% of breaches are attributed to human error, but less than 3% of security spending is focused on the human layer." How will you layer up your education & awareness in 2025? #cybersecurity #riskassessment #knowbe4 #findtheweakness #itsupport

What is SMISHING? You've heard of phishing and scams... well recently teens have been arrested for 'Smishing'. Since October is Cyber Security Awareness month, let's take a moment to learn a little more about this new type of scam. Smishing is a type of phishing attack that occurs via SMS (text messaging). In smishing, cybercriminals send fraudulent messages that often appear to be from legitimate sources, like banks, delivery services, or well-known companies. The goal is to trick recipients into revealing personal information, such as passwords or credit card numbers, or to install malicious software on their devices. Typical tactics used in smishing include: 1. Urgency: Messages often create a sense of urgency, prompting users to act quickly (e.g., "Your account has been compromised; verify now!"). 2. Links: They frequently contain links to fake websites designed to steal information. 3. Attachments: Some may include attachments that, when opened, can install malware. To protect against smishing, it’s essential to verify the sender’s identity, avoid clicking on suspicious links, and report any suspicious messages. Always be cautious with unsolicited texts! 🔒💻 Understanding Malware Attacks: Mac vs. PC💻🔒 As cyber threats continue to evolve, it’s crucial to recognize that not all operating systems face the same risks. While both Macs and PCs are targets for malware, the nature of these attacks can differ significantly. 🔹 Target Audience: Traditionally, PCs have been the primary target for malware due to their larger market share, making them a more appealing target for attackers. However, as Macs gain popularity, they’re increasingly under the microscope. 🔹 Types of Malware: - PCs often experience a wide variety of threats, including ransomware, viruses, and spyware, thanks to their open architecture and widespread use in enterprise environments. - Macs, on the other hand, face threats like adware and trojans, often exploiting user trust or vulnerabilities in less frequent software updates. 🔹 User Behavior: Mac users sometimes have a false sense of security, believing their system is immune to malware. This can lead to risky behavior, such as downloading unverified applications, which increases vulnerability. 🔹 Security Measures: While both systems have robust security features, Macs tend to rely on Gatekeeper and XProtect, which monitor app integrity. PCs often utilize more diverse security solutions due to the variety of threats they face. 🌐 Key Takeaway: No system is invulnerable. Awareness and proactive security measures are essential for both Mac and PC users. Regular updates, cautious downloading practices, and strong passwords can go a long way in protecting your data. Let’s stay informed and safe in our digital environments! 🚀✨ #CyberSecurity #Malware #MacVsPC #DataProtection #TechAwareness

Over the last few months, our Chief Technology Officer, Alex Locatelli has been diving deep into how IT and Technology influence various business functions, particularly in the areas of staff retention, productivity, and brand awareness. With October being Cybersecurity Awareness Month, it seems a fitting time to share his white paper on this important topic. In the paper, he explores the critical intersection of technology and business, offering ideas on how effective IT strategies can drive engagement, boost morale, and enhance overall brand perception. We invite you all to read it, share your thoughts, and let’s spark a conversation on how we can leverage technology for a more resilient and productive workplace. We are also sharing resources and ideas for cyber security awareness on the Computer Services page. you can find the white paper here: www.computerservices.co.nz #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth #Technology #BusinessStrategy #StaffRetention #Productivity #BrandAwareness #WhitePaperRelease
