Consilium’s Head of Advice, Ben Brinkerhoff, recently spoke with Susan Edmunds at RNZ about the KiwiSaver schemes with the biggest balances, and why KiwiWRAP has both the highest average member balance at $173,000 AND the highest proportion of members contributing. Ben shared his insights on why advice becomes essential as your KiwiSaver balance grows: "KiwiWRAP is the solution that allows advisers to give advice. You think to yourself, 'I can't mess this up because I can't earn this amount of money again. KiwiSaver is a meaningful part of my financial retirement.' "When your KiwiSaver account is small, you look at it like a savings account – and we don’t really need advice on a savings account. But at some point, as your KiwiSaver balance grows, it should be treated as an investment account. Then you think to yourself, 'you know what, I need a strategy.'"
