About us

Core HR is a boutique Human Resource Management Company founded in 2017, providing a comprehensive range of HR services to business owners. Our Mission stems from the dream of putting the “human” back into human resources – stepping away from the mass-employer approach. We did not want to treat people as numbers, we wanted to make a difference. We provide a personable, practical HR solution for businesses who care about their people but cannot afford the expense of a full HR department or time to manage staff effectively. Our dedicated team of consultants have experience across all aspects of HR management and are dedicated to boosting your people strategy to the next level, manage HR risks and provide on-going support customised for your organisation. Partnering with Core HR means we will be part of your team, working with your people and people leaders. We will be onsite regularly, and always available and contactable.

  • Employee Productivity Killers 🔫: We're always talking about how to boost employee performance. But before we go there, let’s take a step back… Are we unknowingly making it worse? We can't hope to build on a shaky foundation, so let's make sure our bases are covered! Check out 5 common workplace productivity killers below (and what to do about them).

  • Constructive Dismissal: One of the biggest workplace risks employers overlook. When an employee feels forced to resign, it can lead a business down the bumpy road of personal grievance claims, which includes legal and reputational consequences. Not great. But why do employees feel this way in the first place? Usually, it’s to do with company culture and their working environment. And the good news is, these are things that employers can control! Swipe through to learn what constructive dismissal is, how it happens, and how to prevent it.

  • HR policies sometimes get a bad rap. They’re too long, too complex, or just sitting in a folder no one reads. And yeah, that can definitely be true. Having HR policies and having the RIGHT HR policies in place are two very different things. 🚫 What HR policies CAN’T do: ❌ Fix a bad culture if no one follows them ❌ Replace real leadership and accountability ❌ Work (if they’re outdated, ignored, or copied from Google) ✅ What HR policies CAN do: ✔️ Set clear expectations so everyone knows the rules ✔️ Protect your business from legal headaches ✔️ Make people processes easier, not harder A policy is only as good as how you use it. When clear, practical and well-implemented, it can actually be a game changer. How are your policies doing?

  • ONLY 24% of employees feel they have the necessary skills to advance in their careers. When flipped, this number becomes 76%. 3 out of 4 people DON'T think they are skilled enough to take that next step. That's a gap worth closing! Is this how your team feels? If so (or even if you're just curious), below are 5 tips for upskilling to make sure your team is more prepared for challenges and progression. Remember that a skilled team = a stronger business.

  • We're back for 2025! We hope you missed us. Although these wishes are slightly belated, Happy New Year! We trust you had a lovely break (for those who got one) and are feeling refreshed. Wait... does it feel like motivation is lower than usual, even though everyone just had time off? The return to work can be a little slower than we expect. But that's actually totally normal! Below you'll find 3 reasons why and 3 ways to get back on track successfully, so you can regain momentum and start the year off on the right foot. Give them a read ⬇️

Day 12 of 12: That’s a wrap! 🎁🎄 We hope you've enjoyed our 12 Days of Christmas. As 2024 comes to a close, we’re taking one last look back, reflecting on some ambitious predictions we made at the start of the year about the HR landscape in New Zealand. Spoiler: it wasn't all clairvoyance, but as with any reflection, there are lessons to be learned. For example, 2024 showed us that: 🔄 Adaptability matters more than ever. 💤 Rest isn’t optional—it’s essential. 🎯 Goal-setting may get sidelined, but it’s too important to leave behind in 2025. It’s been another big year, and we hope you can take some time over the break to reset, recharge, and reflect on all your wins, big or small. From all of us at Core HR, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 🎉 Thank you for another wonderful year. We’ll see you in 2025!

  • Day 11: Work Christmas Party Joys As the holidays approach, we find ourselves in the midst of Christmas Party season—a time to celebrate, connect, and unwind with colleagues. ON PAPER. In practice, the Christmas function often has a reputation for being tricky to navigate—the convergence point of professional and personal (and alcohol), and definitely the source of many, many stories. Today, we’re sharing a (very anonymous, of course) collection of some of these stories. Hopefully, it’s the comedic relief you need to get through your late-December Wednesday. • Business Restructuring: How to do it legally and compassionately 🎁 Let’s be honest: restructures are one of the toughest challenges any business can face. But when done right, it’s possible to uphold both legal compliance and compassion. The aim of the game is fairness and respect for everyone involved! On Day 9, we’re sharing two resources from a while back to help you navigate this process: The first is a sort of restructuring 101: A guide to managing consultations and redundancies with care and compliance. The second is a bit more in-depth, giving you insights into more complex scenarios. 👉 Check them out here: 1️⃣ How to Restructure: https://lnkd.in/gfPZvq5K 2️⃣ Business Restructuring Continued: https://lnkd.in/gsAWzpiJ
