MANUKURA | Manawatū Set on the rural peripheries of Palmerston North, MANUKURA campus presents a reimagined learning environment, bolstered by deep-rooted ties to community and place. The special character school is designed around structured academia, Kaupapa Māori, and physical activity. Entwined in their waiata and haka, the symbolism of kia aorangi ake forms a strong connection to both Aorangi Marae and the empowering message to continually seek new pathways — to engage, extend and excel. The Island Bay Village upgrades are complete! 🎉 These changes were designed with the community in mind, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and mahi of our project teams. From the planners and engineers to the engagement and horticulture teams, everyone has played a vital role in delivering improvements that make Island Bay safer, greener, and more vibrant. 🌿 New kōwhai trees and native plants are now dotted around the shopping area, providing shade and greenery. This not only creates a more inviting space but also encourages tūī and other native birds to visit. 🚶Wider, smoother footpaths now make it easier to get around, whether you’re pushing a pram, using a wheelchair, or simply out for a stroll. This also designates more space for businesses to spill out onto the footpath in the furniture area, as visible with Blue Belle Café, and further towards Floyd’s Café, while ensuring a clear, safe pathway for all pedestrians. 🎨 Have you spotted the new murals and historical features around Island Bay? These vibrant artworks, created in collaboration with local artists, schools, historical societies, and community groups, bring the area’s rich history to life. You’ll find scenes of boats on the harbour, vintage tram tracks, Paekwakawa awa signage, and pavers with inspiring quotes and kōrero reflecting the local heritage. These additions are adding culture and colour to the neighbourhood, with a few more exciting pieces to be unveiled soon! 🚲 North/south lane is complete to separate vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians to make moving through the area safer for everyone. 🚗 We’ve converted some long-term parking into P60 spaces to boost visitor access for local businesses. Previously, many of these spaces could be taken up by all-day parking, meaning fewer spaces for people coming into shop, eat, or visit. With these changes, we’re making sure parking is available when you need it and supporting a healthy turnover for local shops. From upgraded lighting to resurfaced roads, we’re excited to see these changes in action. Our team will keep an eye on everything to make sure the area stays in top shape. Recently, Designgroup Stapleton Elliott sponsored a hole at the annual NZ Institute of Building Central Region Golf Day. Our team enjoyed the opportunity to connect with industry peers in the spirit of friendly competition. This year, our winning sponsored hole featured a Parisian bakery theme, complete with fresh croissants and chilled champagne, and included a challenge for teams to construct their own Eiffel Tower. Merci beaucoup to everyone who attended and made the day memorable!
