Enabling the supply of sustainable, reliable, and safe electricity into the future
About us
The EEA is the electricity sector’s leading advocate and knowledge hub in industry safety standards, asset management, engineering and technical excellence, professional development, and emerging technologies. We enable our members to continuously learn and develop in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment. To do this, we work with and represent over 70 Corporate Member organisations and more than 650 individual professional members. These include Chief Executives, senior engineering/technical managers, engineering and field staff, health and safety managers working in network, generation and electricity retail companies, contractors, consultants, and equipment suppliers. The issues we cover focus on engineering, health and safety, and professional development. The EEA acts as an 'industry voice' to the government, regulators, stakeholders, professional bodies, and the media. The EEA also produces an extensive range of publications for industry and public use, including technical and safety guides, standards and general resources, industry reports, and links to relevant legislation and international information. We actively represent New Zealand in the national and international standard development process and facilitate benchmarking in safety and asset management. The EEA also organises professional development training for industry staff, and has developed close relationships with a number of New Zealand, Australian, and UK power engineering schools and safety training providers to offer leading edge professional development training and resources to New Zealand engineers. The EEA also provides an independent forum to enable debate and engagement on industry, engineering, technical, and safety issues. The EEA Conference, regularly held courses and workshops, are important events for engaging with members and other industry stakeholders.

There will be plenty to learn from this outcome and what it means for all businesses. Thanks for putting this series together Business Leaders' Health and Safety Forum
We know that yesterday's decision in the District Court in Maritime NZ v Gibson is a significant one for Chief Executives and senior leaders across New Zealand. That's why we're bringing two leading health and safety lawyers, and two health and safety governance experts together for a webinar series across two days in mid-December. Thanks to Stacey Shortall, Olivia Lund, Mike Cosman and Craig Marriott for agreeing to share their insights from this landmark case with Forum members. Forum members and their teams can register on our website: https://lnkd.in/gGFg2U-2 Supporting our members with analysis, advice and perspectives on effective due diligence remains a key focus for the Forum.

⚡ Our Annual Power Exchange APEX for graduate and student engineers has kicked off in Wellington. ⚡ APEX is a fantastic opportunity for the next generation of engineers in the power industry to network, make new connections and share with one another. Today, attendees will hear from their peers about all the fascinating work that is going on across the sector. Then tomorrow, it’s site visits thanks to the team at Transpower’s Haywards substation, and Meridian’s West Wind wind farm. APEX is just one of the ways the EEA support the development of our young engineers and energy professionals. Keeping workers safe from harm is fundamental to our business which is why EEA members take the lead on developing safety standards and procedures for the electricity supply industry. You can find out about our work here https://lnkd.in/gA43mFze We are extremely proud of our industry and their tireless efforts to maintain the health and wellbeing of people working in and around electricity assets. But change is needed for the sake of all workers in Aotearoa. We are proud to be one of the 61.
61 businesses across 14 industries employing close to 200,000 New Zealanders - all speaking with one voice to the Minister of Workplace Relations and Safety Hon Brooke van Velden. We've been having a fantastic time in Te Awamutu at the Connexis Annual Connection event helping to showcase and promote a career in the electricity supply industry. The team from our Safety Standards and Procedures Group SSPG have been taking people through all the fantastic tools and guides the EEA has to support best practice in health and safety. We’ve also been challenging students to our wiring challenge and what a career in electricity could look like. Great to see their surge in interest after successfully completing the challenge! The Annual Connection event and competition brings together cable jointers, line mechanics and industry stakeholders to promote, recognise, and reward workforce skills, expertise and training. Come see us on site for a chat, a pikelet and to learn more about health and safety, and a career in electricity. https://lnkd.in/gTVBMCNU Thanks to the SSPG and EEA teams Hayley Head, Nicki Sutherland, Graeme Johnson, Simon Parker, Peter Carr, Dean Stevenson

We are thrilled to be part of efforts to increase the use of demand flexibility through our partnership with EECA (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority) in the FlexTalk project. Through FlexTalk we aim to maximise participation in demand flexibility services for the benefit of consumers and industry. The team are gearing up for a new trial of in-home smart devices and consumer energy resources to commence in 2025... you can learn more about it all here https://lnkd.in/ghAm7Zpc
Demand-side flexibility stands to save Aotearoa New Zealand - and New Zealanders - billions of dollars by helping us make the most of the energy system we already have. ⚡ A huge amount of work is happening to ensure consumers will be able to meaningfully benefit from the major cost savings that demand flexibility products will offer, when they become more widespread. EECA's CEO Dr Marcos Pelenur explained the power and potential of demand flexibility in the Sunday Star-Times yesterday - read here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gfyjuNKn
