Made my Day! This morning I realised that the Balm that is helping me with my dry feet is made by ŌKU New Zealand, a family owed business who decided to rediscover and experience the amazing properties held within our ngahere (forests). Ekos is proud to be part of your #sustainability journey and #carbonemissons management. And I very thankful to my Wife Claudia Berringer who gave me this amazing healing balm that really works. Remember to take care of yourself!

Kia Ora! Here today to thanks Ekos and our CEO Sean Weaver to not only ensure the culture within the company is greatly #supportive, but also provide space for the creation of the #MentalHealth Aiders group. Congratulations to Hato Hone St John for the amazing course you guys put together. I truly learnt a lot. Be kind, take care of yourself and each other.

Kia Ora! It has been few months since we started the partnership between Ekos and EcoFixa and it's been a life change experience in terms of tracking the staff commuting for our #carbonemissions. Here I show just the basics of the app, but there is much more to explore in the gamification setup that it brings. #Staffcommuting can be a relevant emission source for many organisations, having accurate data for it will not only allow you to calculate the emissions associated to that, but also provide #insights that to enable #changes and #reductions.

Pilot Whales strand Periodically in Mohua-Golden Bay. Why? This is still somewhat of a mystery. When they do, it’s heart wrenching to see such gentle creatures helplessly struggling under their weight, in the relentless sun. ‘Lucky’ is the wrong word, but our very own Josh Leenhouwers was privileged to help refloat the whales this Sunday and Monday. Herding and cajoling for 4-5 hours submerged in water, they tried on numerous occasions to encourage the whales to swim out into the ocean by guiding and nudging individuals into deeper water, hoping the others would follow. But the whales kept circling back to stay with the group; even with four people on a whale, there was no way to stop several tons of muscle. On Sunday the whales ran out of tide and they got pinned on the sandbar, only to find they had re-beached on the sharp rocks overnight. Monday brought the same frustration, with the pod refusing to budge, until at the ‘eleventh’ hour they finally avoid despair when the volunteers managed to get them to follow us further out into the outgoing tidal rip, where the whales were sucked out past the sand bars and into bay. And also, Josh is grateful to Ekos for supporting its staff to get stuck in volunteer work and giving them the flexible work hours to do more good meaningful stuff for the planet outside the office as well.

In November 2024 we had the pleasure of visiting Staveley Camp, a church camp that started in 1959, located in the foothills of mid Canterbury. We met with Gen de Spa and had a walkthrough of the 9.6 hectare remnant native forest, one of the last and largest regenerating remnants standing on the Canterbury Plains.  The forest at Staveley Camp is cared for by Gen herself, she is working hard to remove and manage weeds such as cotoneaster and sycamore to help the native regeneration thrive as well as maintaining pest trapping and track maintenance. Gen has also created a plant nursery using small seedlings and seeds from the forest to propagate and spread out to the wider community.  Gen looks after the groups that come to the forest to volunteer such as schools and church groups and teaches them about the forest values, permaculture (no waste thinking) and regenerative practices. The forest is a healing place for people, and the people are a healing place for the forest.  We want to commend Gen for her inspiring work at Staveley Camp and the passion and drive she has towards caring for this magnificent biodiverse forest as well as sharing her knowledge with others.   If you would like to learn more about the forest at Staveley Camp please watch this awesome video here (https://lnkd.in/gW6vHF6f) OR visit their website(https://lnkd.in/gwNrKpnA).

🎁 A Gift That Gives Back to Nature 🌿 At Ekos, reducing emissions is always our priority, but we understand that this time of year often involves a lot of travel. And that’s okay—family, connection, and togetherness are what the season is all about. This year, why not give a gift that keeps giving while supporting nature? 🌱 Our Carbon Offset Gift Packs are a thoughtful, package-free way to take responsibility for travel emissions. Each gift funds the reforestation and protection of restorative forests here in Aotearoa and the Pacific Islands. Every gift includes a personalised certificate for your chosen recipient—a meaningful way to celebrate the season while making a positive impact. 💚 Give the gift of nature this year! https://lnkd.in/gyfgpR4D #Ekos #SustainableGifts #ClimateAction #GiftOfNature

At Zeffer, sustainability is more than just a goal—it is a commitment that shapes every aspect of the business. To strengthen its sustainability efforts, Zeffer partnered with Ekos to take significant steps toward reducing and offsetting its carbon footprint, with the ultimate goal of becoming New Zealand’s first zero-carbon cidery. This partnership with Ekos has provided valuable insights into the company’s emissions and identified areas for improvement. One of the challenges faced has been streamlining data collection, which Zeffer is addressing by drafting a guide to simplify the process for the future. The company is also continuously seeking ways to minimize its environmental impact, such as relabeling surplus cans and sourcing fresh ingredients locally whenever possible. Zeffer’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond carbon management. The business proudly displays its Ekos certification on every can, symbolizing its dedication to responsible practices. For Zeffer, being a responsible business means caring for both the planet and the community. Its mission is to tread lightly from orchard to can, ensuring that every sip supports a greener, more sustainable future.
