Te Ngaengae Pool and Fitness recently opened in Naenae, Lower Hutt, after the closure of the old pool in 2019. A loss that hit the community hard. Hutt City Mayor, Campbell Barry describes the completed project as " a state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly facility..." The new facility is so environmentally sustainable, it's design has earned it an impressive 5 Green Star Rating by the New Zealand Green Building Council. Recently we submitted on the New Zealand Infrastructure Commission, Te Waihanga's thinking on developing a National Infrastructure Plan. We see many opportunities for how our country’s infrastructure is procured and delivered, based on five key requirements: – A structured robust infrastructure pipeline process for bipartisan support – That only affordable and achievable initiatives be considered, and cost benefit evaluations always used – Smarter procurement, including Government being resourced with principal engineering advisors – Leadership, accountability and managing expectations both in Government and wider society – Interdependencies like the national policy statement for infrastructure, building reforms and standards be integrated.
