About us
Farro is a New Zealand-owned and operated business, founded in 2006 by Janene and James Draper. The duo had a desire to create a retail space that showcased the very best and finest of New Zealand food. The foundations of the Farro brand were formed in a storefront on Lunn Ave, Mt Wellington. What was then just a team of 12 has now grown to over 300 in 6 different stores across Auckland – Epsom, Grey Lynn, Mt Eden, Mt Wellington, North Shore and Orakei. At Farro, we like to make your grocery shopping an experience, not a chore and aim to provide our customers with a retail experience that ignites the senses. Our team takes the job of selection for our shelves very seriously and works to provide food that also reflects our own desires – free from artificial ingredients, high quality, provides value and of course, delicious. The entire team at Farro love to cook and are constantly being inspired by new ingredients, new ideas and exciting recipes. We commit to sharing that inspiration with our shoppers. We provide seasonal recipes, across the store, that tie in with our monthly themes and through Feast – our in-house-designed magazine, which is a showcase of everything great for the month ahead at Farro.

Last night we held our first night market in over a year at Farro Grey Lynn! We had more than 700 locals come through to enjoy food trucks, drinks, face painting and more, as well as a few delicious plates from our famous Farro Kitchen. A great way to bring our community together and the first of many more foodie events this summer. Keep an eye on our social channels to see what’s coming up! Thanks Grey Lynn for your support #rachaelAllison, #hamishfleming, #darryllarsen, #vickytasker, #belindawalsh. #cheryldurose, #jonathonrobertson

Earlier this month, we put out an open invitation to our team and their Whānau to join us at Stardome Observatory & Planetarium to learn more about Matariki. Last week, we gathered under the dome in our planetarium seats and embarked on an incredible journey through the stars with "Matariki - Ngā Whetū o te Tau Hou (Matariki - The Stars of the New Year)." Together, we travelled faster than the speed of light, getting up close and personal with the leading atua and whetū of the stories we grew up with. Each star has an important part in welcoming the Māori New Year: ✨Matariki: the mother of the eight stars in the constellation, who signifies reflection, hope, our connection to the environment, and the gathering of people. ✨ Waitī: Signifying freshwater food. ✨ Waitā: Representing saltwater, the ocean, and its food sources. ✨ Waipuna-ā-rangi: Associated with the rain. ✨ Tupuānuku: The star connected to everything that grows within the soil for harvest. ✨ Tupuārangi: Linked to everything that grows up in the trees: fruits, berries, and birds. ✨ Ururangi: The star of the winds and the weather in the year to come. ✨ Pōhutukawa: Associated with those who have passed on. ✨ Hiwa-i-te-rangi: The star of granting our wishes and realising our dreams for the new year. As we celebrate Matariki this year, we’ll be saying our karakia to thank the stars for the kai provided to us, to Pōhutukawa to remember those who have passed, and to Hiwa-i-te-rangi for our dreams and aspirations for the new year. We encourage everyone to take time to reflect during this special time. For those interested in learning more about Māori astronomy and the Maramataka and admiring the beauty of our night sky, tickets are still available at Stardome, but they’re filling up fast! 👉 Learn more about Matariki and get your tickets here: https://lnkd.in/guvqD6wx
