This year, Karli and Deb from the Food for Thought team have delivered free nutrition education to over 3,200 tamariki across 44 Canterbury schools. Supported by Foodstuffs and the Heart Foundation, Food for Thought helps children learn about food labels, nutrition, and making informed food choices. Their skills are put into practice on supermarket visits, and each classroom receives a gift card to plan and enjoy a shared nutritious lunch together. Amazing work, Karli Adams-Stachurski and Deborah McIntosh, inspiring healthier futures for our tamariki! Tis the season for giving, and as part of our role to feed the South Island and create successful communities, our teams at our Christchurch and Dunedin Distribution Centres have been busy putting together school bags full of back-to-school essentials to help families and kids in our communities get prepped with all the essentials required for the new school year. We’re donating the school bags to Christchurch Aunties, who support women and children in Christchurch women's refuges, and Foster Hope in Dunedin, an organisation that provides support to children in foster care. The school bags will be delivered to families before Christmas, with the aim to help ease costs for families during an expensive time of year. We’re also giving each of our 1200 Supply Chain team members our annual Festive Foodies bag of goodies which includes a festive recipe to share with families and friends. Each bag is packed with all the ingredients and a recipe to make a batch of Christmas Rocky Road, a sweet treat for the holiday season. The lead-up to Christmas is our busiest time of year for our supply chain, so it’s all hands on deck to keep our stores and customers well supplied during the summer festive season. We also put together an additional 250 festive goodie bags for our community partner, Satisfy Food Rescue, who we partner with through our stores and supply chain, to help them out during their busiest time of the year. Christmas can be a tough time for many, and we’re thrilled to be able to help support the incredible work our community partners do to help make the festive season a little brighter for everyone. #HereforNZ #Community #ChristmasGiving #SupportingLocal Mary Devine, ONZM Tim Donaldson Niah Taylor Damian Lynch Kris Lancaster Andrew Crerar Shayne Tong Lydia Matthews Justin Vaudrey Andrew Gaukrodger Dominic Quin Stefan Herrick Esther Gordon Clinton Rowling Sonia Beal Sophie Parish Satisfy Food Rescue Christchurch Aunties, FOSTER HOPE INC Scott Fairweather Haydon Thom Simon Olsen Kyrin Gourley Briar Whimp Laura E.

All our stores are 100% locally owned and operated and support their local communities in unique ways. Last week, New World Northwood teamed up with TVNZ Breakfast to celebrate the store’s partnerships with local community groups and to spread some Christmas kindness. Owner Operator Greg Boock recognised the work of the Salvation Army Christchurch North with a 90-second trolley grab. The team filled six trolleys with $8,794 of goods that are going to make a big difference for the families that rely on their support. The store also gifted Pūtahi Belfast School with $1,000 that’s going to be put towards a new playground. We’re proud to back the communities we live in! Each year, One Mother to Another delivers over 6,000 care packages to neonatal and pediatric wards across the South Island. 👣 🩷 Thanks to this grant, the charity has bought more than 2,500 women’s and men’s deodorants – practical yet impactful items that provide comfort and dignity to parents during unexpected hospital stays. At Foodstuffs, we believe in giving back to our communities. Through our store owner-operators, the Community Trust supports initiatives that make a meaningful impact – like this one. From a part-timer stacking shelves at New World in Dunedin 1989 to now owning his own store in the same town, it’s a homecoming affair for the new owner operator of PAK’nSAVE Dunedin, Justin Vaudrey. Justin has returned with his wife Claire to the town where they first met, taking the reins of the sole PAK’nSAVE in the city, and the pair say the opportunity to return to their hometown was one they couldn’t pass up. The pair are experienced grocers, having run New World Westport, then New World South City in Christchurch and were involved in the development of New World Durham, a new flagship store for the South Island. They both love Dunedin and are looking forward to getting to know their community. Welcome home Justin and Claire! 😀 🙌 🛒 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/djdtKceJ Mary Devine, ONZM Tim Donaldson Niah Taylor Damian Lynch Kris Lancaster Andrew Crerar Shayne Tong Lydia Matthews Justin Vaudrey Andrew Gaukrodger Dominic Quin Stefan Herrick Esther Gordon Clinton Rowling Sonia Beal Sophie Parish

🎄 Spreading joy this Christmas: $250k boost to South Island communities 🎄 This holiday season, our Foodstuffs South Island Community Trust is making Christmas a little brighter for many, with a $250,000 contribution to foodbanks and community partners throughout the South Island. Funded by our local New World, PAK’nSAVE, and Four Square store owner-operators, this donation will benefit 29 organisations at a time of year that can be tough for many people. By supporting our local partners, we hope to spread joy and make a meaningful difference across all the communities we serve and support. 💛 🛒 Our local grocers are proud to partner with foodbanks and organisations year-round, ensuring that surplus food goes to those who need it most. This is just one of the many ways we work to fulfil our purpose - to feed the South Island and create successful communities. Last year, the Trust donated $200,000 as part of a special festive contribution to the communities we operate in and support, and in FY24 alone we provided over $406,000 to South Island communities. After a decade in fine dining, recipe development, and cookbook authoring, Craig Rodger joined PAK'nSAVE Papanui with a new goal – to one day own his own store. The store’s owner-operators Bryan Walker and Lucy Boock have helped put him on a career pathway, as they have for many others at the store, with mentorship, opportunities for development, a strong customer focus, and a supportive work environment that values family and work-life balance. Craig’s provided five years of dedicated service, from managing the store deli, bakery, fresh foods, and now the dry goods department. He’s embraced each role with passion and a drive for excellence, and after recently completing a leadership management course through Foodies, Craig is well on his way to achieving his dream. We’re proud of Craig’s journey and excited to support his aspirations for store ownership. 🌟 Interested in a career with PAK’nSAVE? We recently celebrated the first anniversary of our partnership with the New Zealand Food Network, who have food hubs nationwide to connect Kiwis with surplus food. And what a year it has been! 🎉 Since joining forces, we've seen a 40% increase in the amount of food saved each week. That means more perfectly good produce like apples and bananas, which might have a small blemish or bruise and be left behind by customers, can go to those who need it most, instead of going to waste. By the end of 2024, we'll have donated over $1 million worth – that’s around 100 tonnes of rescued food delivered to communities across the South Island.
