At Tracking Y Ranch, Jake Yancey's wife, April, and twin daughters, Kaidence and Cloey (pictured left to right) are involved in the business. “I don't think there's a week that goes by that all of us are not out there. From the electric fence to cloud, Gallagher solutions empower customers to protect what matters most.
About us
When a horse called Joe decided to use the family car as a scratching post, it inspired Bill Gallagher Senior to devise an electrical circuit that delivered a small pulse whenever the horse rocked the vehicle, and the concept for the world’s first ever electric fence system was born. That was in the early 1930s. By the end of the decade Bill had built his first electric fence and made a long-term commitment to building a great business – Gallagher. Although we are now known and respected in over 100 countries with offices in NZ, Australia, Europe, North America, Chile, and South Africa, Gallagher remains a family-owned business founded on family values. We understand our customers, and the animals and land that they protect. From the electric fence to the cloud, Gallagher’s hardware and software solutions come together to create connected and customisable ecosystems that empower our customers to work responsibly, productively, and profitably. We're proudly on a journey to help create a more sustainable future for people, the planet, and business in every market and country in which we operate. Our sustainability framework guides our decision-making to protect what matters most.

Managing water on a dairy farm can be stressful, especially during hot summer months—but Gallagher’s Satellite Water Monitoring System is changing that. Sam Waugh, farm manager at Donald's Farm NZYF, no longer has to rely on manual checks or react to empty tanks in panic. With alerts sent directly to his phone, he can address small issues before they become big problems. The system not only saves time and ensures the herd stays well-watered but also gives Sam the confidence to step away from the farm, knowing everything is under control. Peace of mind makes all the difference. https://lnkd.in/g6MkyYGF

The Oregon Spotted Frog requires a wetland area with short grass to lay their eggs (oviposition). With 2-3 weeks of rotational grazing at the end of Summer, invasive vegetation is kept at bay providing optimum conditions for the wet season. Our Chief Executive Lisbeth Jacobs has started the year by strengthening connections across Canada and the US, meeting with Gallagher teams, customers, and partners to drive innovation and resilience in the industry. Lisbeth connected with ranchers using eShepherd virtual fencing, including one who found it perfect for keeping their wedding venue fence-free—an unexpected but valuable benefit! Lastly Lisbeth stopped in to CattleCon 2025, catching up with our team and engaging with customers. What a whirlwind trip! Lisbeth says: "We experienced a 40-degree temperature swing in just 10 days - wow. From -11 degrees Celsius in Canada to +30 degrees in San Antonio. A real demonstration of how we're supporting such a diverse range of customers and operations. Our products and solutions really have a tough job out there to ensure that we're doing the best we can for those customers".

NZ summer challenges for calves call for smart management. In this recent article from Anexa Vet Services, "Keep calves thriving in the summer heat," vet Katrina Roberts highlights several strategies to maintain calf health during the hot season. One of our key takeaways was the importance of regular weighing. During high-risk times like summer, monthly weighing is crucial – it ensures your system is on track and quickly flags any calves that may be falling behind when feed is limited. Consistent weighing provides valuable data to help you make the best decisions at the right time. Discover how our innovative weighing solutions can support your herd management and keep your calves thriving all summer long via the link in comments below.
