Feeling the love for a clever project with community connection at its heart… ❤️ The Tairāwhiti Marae Emergency Preparedness and Resilience project won 2024 ALGIM Award for Smart Community Project of the Year last night’s awards, recognising the use of innovation and technology in local government. Council collaborated with Te Puni Kokiri, Toitu Tairāwhiti, iwi and hapū to produce community-specific, risk-based plans – providing disaster support systems in an emergency. The initiative equips communities with resources to withstand the unique challenges they face in severe weather events and natural disasters. Congratulations to everyone involved, ka mau te wehi.

Congratulations Kerry Hudson! 🌟 Our Acting Director of Liveable Communities was recently invited to Government House to receive his New Zealand Order of Merit. Last month, Kerry travelled to Wellington where Governor General Cindy Kiro, delivered his Order for dedication and commitment to soil conservation and land management over the last 42 years. Kerry's passion, not only for whenua but for people, has set a high standard for building community relationships and the importance of kanohi kitea. Here are a few photos of the ceremony; the group shot features Kerry with whānau - including his son, daughter, wife, sisters, and mum. Ka mau te wehi Kerry! 👏
