Led by islands, for all islands.
About us
The Global Island Partnership (GLISPA) works to bring together island nations and nations with islands for conservation and sustainable development. GLISPA assists islands in addressing one of the world’s greatest challenges: to conserve and sustainably utilize the invaluable island natural resources that support people, cultures, and livelihoods in their island homes around the world. GLISPA is recognised by the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) as a partnership to advance the implementation of the CBD 2010 biodiversity target, to reduce the rate of biodiversity loss, and the programmes of work on island biodiversity and protected areas.

🌊🌎 At #COP, Ocean Day’s Connected Ocean session underscored the power of global partnerships in ocean conservation. Through a poetic performance, leaders from the Caribbean Biodiversity Fund, Micronesia Conservation Trust, SeyCCAT (Seychelles Conservation and Climate Adaptation Trust), and beyond united in a call to protect our shared marine legacy. “Conservatory”, symbolizes the ocean as a shared sanctuary, where trust funds and resilient island voices play vital roles. Together, we are building a future grounded in sustainable ocean use and community-driven conservation. #ConnectedOcean #Conservation #GLISPA #IslandPartnerships

At COP16, Micronesia shared its remarkable conservation journey with the world. Since 2006, the Micronesia Challenge has catalyzed a movement to protect 30% of near-shore marine and 20% of terrestrial resources. This ambitious, island-led initiative has trained over 3,000 conservation leaders, established 70+ protected areas, and raised over $85 million, inspiring similar initiatives from the Caribbean to Europe. With new 2030 goals aiming to safeguard 50% of marine and 30% of terrestrial resources, Micronesia’s model proves how local action can drive global change. As island leaders reminded us, progress is possible even amid challenges. Let's celebrate this success and continue working together to preserve our planet's biodiversity #MicronesiaChallenge #COP16 #Biodiversity #Sustainability #IslandLeadership #EnvironmentalStewardship
