The Importance of Estate Planning During the Holiday Season As the holiday season approaches, it’s a time for joy, celebration, and spending time with family. But amidst the festivities, it's crucial to consider the importance of estate planning. Just as you might get your surfboard out and wax it for summer or have your skis prepared for the slopes, preparing your legal affairs can provide peace of mind for you and your family. Thanks to Phil Sewell, Madeleine Currie and Trudi Gow for their time to put this blog together: https://lnkd.in/gnna-rmJ Real people. Real solutions. Real preparations.

Tahliya joined Godfreys Law in September 2024 as an Office Junior. She plays a pivotal role in ensuring administration matters run smoothly and efficiently. Tahliya plays an important role with Godfreys Law, ensuring all wills and deeds are stored safely, and all files are closed correctly. Tahliya is also one of the friendly faces you will see at our reception desk. There are many things that Tahliya has found interesting since working in the legal industry, one being the number of wills and deeds held, and also the amount of files that have been worked on throughout the years. Outside of work, Tahliya can be found walking her Golden Retriever dog Buddy, at the local shops adding to her wardrobe, or spending time with her family and friends. Real people. Real solutions. Real team member.

Karen joined Godfreys Law in September 2024, bringing with her an extensive background in Legal Secretary support. Karen started her legal career as soon as she left high school when an opportunity to work as a Legal Secretary was presented. Karen took the role and has worked within law firms and barristers’ chambers ever since (alongside a brief sojourn doing media operations at the 2012 London Olympics). Karen’s area of expertise is within court-based work, however she enjoys working within conveyancing, insurance, debt collection, estates and many other areas. Outside of work, Karen enjoys socialising with friends and family, attending book group, Reformer Pilates, impromptu road trips and walking her Springer Spaniel Spartacus. Real people. Madeleine Currie made these for morning tea today, which were an absolute hit with all the staff. So much so, we are going to have a cooking class in-house before Christmas making treats! Any clients who would like to try these, the link to the recipe is https://lnkd.in/ge9_aUCP Real people. Real solutions. Really delicious food.

Mikayla Whalley joined Godfreys Law in August 2024 as a Law Clerk. Mikayla is in her third year at the University of Canterbury studying a Bachelor of Laws. Mikayla chose to study law as she saw a career focused around helping people, which is a strong value of hers. Mikayla’s studies have drawn her towards the areas of Commercial, Contract, and Litigation, although she is eager to be immersed across all fields. Within Godfreys Law, Mikayla plays a key role in undertaking research, assisting the team with support required and prepping/organising files. Outside of work and study, Mikayla loves being involved in anything that will get her outdoors, whether it be sports (netball, volleyball and surfing), camping, or attending concerts and festivals with her friends. Real people. Real solutions. Real team member.

Goodbye to the 2-year separation period required to file for divorce A recent change in our outdated relationship legislation has now passed, giving family violence survivors the power to quickly dissolve their marriages. This recent amendment removes the two-year separation requirement for divorce in abusive relationship situations when a final protection order has been obtained. Mikayla Whalley wrote this blog, great work Mikayla! Read more: https://lnkd.in/gDAEx7R8 Real people. Real solutions. Really cool legislation updates.
