HeliOps Issue 154 Once again we bring you a great edition of HeliOps This one includes features from one side of the globe to the other. For our cover feature Jason Jorgensen takes a look at the introduction of two brand new Airbus Helicopters H145D3s to the fleet of the Western Australia Police Air Wing and how the crews are implementing the Next-Gen capabilities of the new aircraft and what they bring to crime fighting in the largest state of Australia. 🇦🇺 On the other side of the globe our Editor in Chief Mark Ogden spent a few days checking out the world of heli-skiing in the remote parts of Iceland and then sitting down with Jokull and his crew to find out more about this new industry he was instrumental in creating in Iceland. Dropping torpedoes into the water about 60 miles off the coast of the Hawaiian Island of Kauai while the best of the best Submarine Commanders from the United States Navy and their nuclear charges play war games far below is just part of the job for the crews from CHI Aviation as they provide support to the Pacific Missile Range Facility. Publisher Ned Dawson hung out with the crews for a week and got to see first hand the crews at work. Imagining walking into a barn in the remotest parts of the United States and finding some of the coolest, rarest, helicopters there are. Well our US Editor Nick Veronico caught up with Doug Scroggins as he tells us just that – he has found some truly amazing old machines that most thought were long gone. H-21s, R-5D, R-6 and HRP – just some of the treasures Scroggins has rescued with many of them going to be restored hopefully to flying condition. To top off this issue our Publisher Ned then ventured up to Alaska to check out Alaska Helicopter Tours and their fleet of R-44s, an R-66 and a stunning matt black H125 that they use on adventure tourism work – from the base of the Knik Glacier not far from Anchorage. Alaska boasts some truly stunning scenery and is a photographers dream, as well as a much sought after destination for Tourists. AHT have carved out a pretty niche market for themselves and continues to grow so we decided to check them out. To enjoy this jam packed issue click on the link and have a read. And as always we are open to comments and feedback. Have a great read everyone. Calm before the storm. Had a few arrivals yesterday for the Great Kiwi 500 Fly In here at Hanmer Springs in New Zealand. Still got another 50+ machines coming in today. Not a cloud in the sky. Going to be an epic day for a gathering of the most iconic machine out there. MD Helicopters
