Mark has over 20 years of experience in the life insurance industry, both in New Zealand and internationally. This includes six years as CFO, with two years at Chubb Life and four years at Cigna before its acquisition by Chubb. Prior to this, he held senior executive finance roles at Cigna. Mark says “I’ve admired Partners Life as a competitor for many years. I’m thrilled to join such a customer-focused and innovative team. The Chair of the Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa, Kent Gardner, says Gretchen stood out in a strong field of candidates. ‘Gretchen gave us confidence that she is the best person to lead Creative New Zealand as our next Chief Executive. She has a strong record as an enterprising leader who is highly responsive to context, is very good with people, and engages deeply and works with community.’ ‘The Council took the opportunity to appoint someone who is a leader and has deep experience of working in the arts sector. Gretchen has been both a freelance performer and worked in several executive roles in the arts, including a fixed term appointment as Senior Manager Art Development at Creative New Zealand until May of this year,’ Kent says. Gretchen is currently Executive Director of The Court Theatre in Christchurch and has been Chief Executive at Chamber Music New Zealand and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. In this role Scott will drive TPL’s continued progress and commitment to providing safe, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions for the Kingdom of Tonga. Scott brings extensive experience in the energy and resource sectors. He began his career at Rio Tinto, where he spent six years advancing from a maintenance superintendent to project manager. He then contributed 13 years of senior leadership at New Zealand Aluminium Smelters Limited, managing reduction, metal products, and assets. From 2018 to 2024, Scott served as General Manager of Power Schemes, where he honed his expertise in managing complex power operations and supporting sustainable practices. A seasoned professional, Scott holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics from the University of Canterbury, a Master of Engineering Management from the same institution, and a Master of Engineering in Light Metals Reduction Technology from the University of Auckland. His comprehensive technical and leadership background positions him to lead TPL as it continues its mission to advance energy security and enhance the reliability of power generation and delivery for Tonga.
