Dear KEA Community, As Christmas approaches here in New Zealand, I want to take a moment to update you on recent developments following our AGM and year-end board meeting yesterday. As many of you are aware, 2024 has been a challenging year for KEA. The loss of two-thirds of our funding has necessitated a significant organizational restructuring over the past six months. This adjustment has led to a leaner team, realigning our operations with the reduced budget available. However, in good Kiwi spirit, we’ve reframed this setback as an opportunity to reassess and redefine the future of KEA. We've gained clarity on what KEA can and should be, and how we can best deliver both economic and social impact for our diaspora and for New Zealand. This marks the beginning of KEA 2.0. A streamlined and highly experienced Governance Board has been set up to lead the restructure and relaunch of KEA. This board includes incoming Chairman Tim Anderson , board members Ben Marris, and myself. Together, we are committed to implementing KEA 2.0, guided by a focus on strong governance, accountability, and delivering tangible results. Yesterday, I stepped down as Chairman at our AGM to focus fully on driving the implementation of KEA 2.0 as interim CEO. The Board is dedicated to working throughout the holiday period to lay the foundation for this new strategy. We look forward to sharing our progress with you, our community, and welcome your feedback and support in coming weeks as we strive to position KEA for success as we head into 2025. If you would like to share your ideas on what you feel would make a better and more connected KEA, please email me on lance@keanewzealand.com. As part of this reset, we’ve established a new Advisory Board tasked with developing a forward-thinking strategy for KEA’s future. The goal is to ensure the organization becomes scalable, financially self-sustaining, and continues to add value at every touchpoint within our global community. We are fortunate to have some of KEA’s most successful and innovative thinkers joining us in this endeavour: Privahini Bradoo, David Booth, Austin Teece, and one of New Zealand’s most respected diplomats, MFAT CEO Bede Corry. We believe that the revitalized KEA will become a key driver of New Zealand’s economic growth, powered by you—our global diaspora—with the ambitious goal of contributing to an annual GDP growth rate of over 5%. The road ahead is filled with exciting possibilities, but we are also mindful that swift, decisive action is necessary to ensure KEA’s long-term success. We are eager to engage with you as we embark on this new chapter for KEA. On behalf of the KEA Boards, our dedicated Regional Directors, Gary Fortune, Rebecca BAO and our newly appointed UK RD Charlotte Dawber-Ashley together with our onshore team, Zoe Wang, Gloria Holliday and Kellie Addison, we’d like to wish you all a safe and enjoyable holiday season. Nga hararei koa Lance Sheppard

Kea reposted this
On 4 November, Kea New Zealand was pleased to support the Services Sector Panel of New Zealand that brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to discuss the future of the services sector prior to the opening of the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE). With an engaging opening speech from New Zealand Trade and Agriculture Minister Hon. Todd Mcclay, the event set a positive and collaborative tone for the discussions. The panel discussions covered a range of topics, including banking, retail, tourism and legal practices shared by the industry leaders from ANZ (Angie Chen, Head of Global Subsidiary), Trademonster Limited (Gavin Yang, Managing Director), China Travel Service (Lisa Li, MInstD Managing Director) and Sparks Service (Rocky Meng, Founder). Moderated by the Chair of New Zealand Business Roundtable in China (NZBRiC), Mark Anderton, each panelist shared their perspectives of the development and outlook of their specific field. Participants engaged in meaningful dialogues, sharing best practices and strategies that can be implemented to enhance productivity and resilience. The panel discussion highlighted the significance of the services sector as a cornerstone of New Zealand's economy, emphasizing its role in job creation, innovation, and community well-being. Attendees were encouraged to share their insights and experiences, fostering a spirit of collaboration aimed at addressing both challenges and opportunities within the sector. The event sees the great collaboration between both onshore and offshore organisations. And it's a great pleasure to meet with a broad spectrum of New Zealand leaders who come with the Minister for CIIE including Congresswoman Nancy Lu. It marks a significant step forward in strengthening the services sector, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of these discussions in the months and years to come! #keanewzealand #lancesheppard Kellie Addison #zoewang #NZBRiC
