🌿 Community Resilience in Action at Kinloch Wilderness Retreat 🌿 This past week has shown us both the beauty of our community and the challenges we face. Road closures in the region have impacted access not only to Kinloch Wilderness Retreat but also to the Greenstone/Caples tracks, the Te Araroa Walkway, and the Greenstone/Elfin Bay Station. These areas are cherished by locals and visitors alike, drawing hikers, outdoor enthusiasts, and families seeking to experience New Zealand’s stunning landscapes. With access limited, we’re advocating for sustainable, long-term solutions to keep our region connected. Reliable access routes—whether by road, lake, or air—are essential, not just for Kinloch Wilderness Retreat, but for the entire community that depends on tourism, conservation, and agricultural operations. A lake-based transport option, for example, would reduce our dependence on vulnerable roadways, ensure continued access for visitors and locals, and align with our eco-conscious goals. We are grateful for the efforts of all those involved, and we look forward to working with local authorities and stakeholders to turn these challenges into opportunities for sustainable growth. Kinloch has always been a haven for travellers, and we’re committed to ensuring it remains accessible and welcoming to all who wish to experience its unique beauty. Thank you to everyone for your support as we navigate these times. We invite our partners, community members, and visitors to join us in advocating for a resilient future for Kinloch and our neighbouring areas. #KinlochWildernessRetreat #SustainableTourism #CommunityResilience #LakeWhakatipu #GreenstoneTracks #EcoTourism #SustainableSolutions #SupportLocalCommunities #NewZealand

  • Powering up Future Business at @Kinloch Wilderness Retreat was a fantastic event of connection, learning, and trialing. The new and very first electric tourist bus in Queenstown transported guests to the venue. Huge thanks to David Gatward Ferguson for transporting guests it was great to be checking out the range ready for Routeburn transport by electric bus for the season with Info and Track. Huge thanks to Josh Ellison from Rewiring Aotearoa for opening the event with an overview of why we need to electrify everything. Paul Hollingsworth from Think Solar showed us how they assist companies assess their solar potential by looking at a prime example in Frankton's sunny bowl of the BNZ bank (Craigs building). From assessing potential, Think Solar can then quote for the conversion to Solar power drastically decreasing power bills. David Charlton from Octopus Energy updated us on the current situation with power and how switching to a power supplier that works with your energy systems and helping people save by switching the load. Trent Yeo and myself finished off the session with a quick Q and A on vehicles with a nodd to Polestar with V2G coming with their Polestar 3 and 4 later this year. As well as lunch, everyone enjoyed an 'Escape' with Escape Pinot Noir from Mondillo wines to welcome in the weekend.
