From making impact for rare disorder whānau, to joining the All of Government (AoG) panel, to championing kaupapa Māori and independent artists – we’ve embraced a year of growth and impact here at Māia. Reflecting on the journey of 2024, we can say with full hearts how proud we are of the mahi accomplished alongside our partners and client whānau. Every step has been a testament to collective māia and passion. However, the highs haven’t come without lows. To all those across Aotearoa and the world who faced challenges in 2024, especially within our media landscape, we send a special mihi. The ability to arm communities with the information we need to make informed decisions relies on the dedication of our newsrooms. We tautoko your mahi, just as you tautoko ours. Our pursuit of purpose was recognised at the Effie and Pressie Awards, where we took home two golds and two silvers for #GlowUpShowUp and Step Into Your Place. This is just a glimpse of the mahi Māia achieved alongside our client whānau this year. Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari kē he toa takitini. My success should not be bestowed onto me alone, it was not individual success but the success of a collective. Whether you’re a changemaker, a purpose-led business, or a leader ready to leave a legacy, we’re here to help you fulfil your purpose. Reach out at kiaora@maiastudio.co. At Māia, our kaupapa is to improve social outcomes through communications and bring more diversity to our industry. Last night, that purpose was recognised at the 2024 Pressie Awards. The Pressies celebrates campaigns that don’t just turn heads – they create change. They recognise excellence across PR, experiential, and social media, shining a light on work that sparks conversations and influences the future of Aotearoa. The OWN IT Step Into Your Place campaign, for Tāmaki Regeneration, was celebrated for supporting Māori and Pasifika whānau to achieve affordable homeownership in Tāmaki. The #GlowUpShowUp campaign, in partnership with Rare Disorders NZ, shone a light on the rare disorders community and helped secure a national health strategy for rare disorders. We were humbled to be two of the three finalists in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion category for #GlowUpShowUp and Step Into Your Place, walking away with golds for both campaigns. And in the Non-Profit category, #GlowUpShowUp received a silver win. And while we’re humbled by the recognition, our true hope is to see more campaigns centred on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the future – and more finalists being celebrated in this space. Our industry has an important part to play in making Aotearoa a better place. Ngā mihi to the Commercial Communications Council for recognising the power of impactful storytelling, to Tāmaki Regeneration and Rare Disorders NZ for trusting us with your important kaupapa, and a huge mihi to all the other winners and finalists. ✨ If you want to kōrero about how we can support your kaupapa, contact us at kiaora@maiastudio.co

As a pakihi Māori, serving many kaupapa Māori, we know it can be hard to get time to leave the desk. While it's important to show up ā kanohi if you can, wairua matters too! If you can't get there ā tinana, swipe for ways you can tautoko the hīkoi mō Te Tiriti ā wairua. We need everyone to turn up in whatever way you can to tautoko this crucial kaupapa. Make mokopuna decisions e te whānau. 🔴⚫⚪ Toitū te Iwi Māori, Toitū te Tiriti! #Māia #ToitūTeTiriti #Māori

Ehara tō tātou toa he toa takitahi, engari ia he toa takitini. Our campaign with Tāmaki Regeneration to encourage whānau to ‘Step Into Your Place’ received a silver award last night at the 2024 Effie Awards in the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion – Community Engagement category. The Step Into Your Place campaign ran from September 2023 to April 2024 and educated, empowered and inspired whānau to start the journey towards homeownership with the Tāmaki Regeneration OWN IT programme. For over 1,600 whānau in Tāmaki, it allowed them to take their first steps into home ownership, to reclaim their whenua and break generational trauma. This is the embodiment of our mission at Māia – to deliver brave communication strategies that make impact. The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion category celebrates diverse work in the advertising and marketing industry in Aotearoa. It’s a call to the entire industry to uplift inclusive, kaupapa (purpose) driven work. Ngā mihi nui to our incredible team who worked so hard to deliver this campaign, to Tāmaki Regeneration for trusting us to authentically share the stories of those whānau that their programme has impacted, and to all those who tautoko our mahi. Together, we’re shaping the future of conscious, inclusive communications and marketing in Aotearoa. #DiversityEquityandInclusion #ConsciousCommunications #EffieAwardsAotearoa #OWNIT #WhānauHousing #TāmakiRegeneration #KaupapaMāori Commercial Communications Council Tāmaki Regeneration 10XL Mihi Blake Noenoe Barclay-Kerr Tilly van Eeden Makere C. Last year Tāmaki Regeneration engaged Māia to grow registrations for OWN IT – their shared homeownership programme. Our challenge was to engage communities that had historically been left out of homeownership. For Māori in Tāmaki, homeownership is more than owning their whare; it’s an act of tino rangatiratanga, and reconnection with whenua, culture, language and whakapapa. Our creative solution was grounded in the idea that we needed to encourage whānau to step back into their rightful place of home ownership, and start that journey with the support of Tāmaki Regeneration. 'Step Into Your Place' delivered measurable impact, with more whānau than ever before registering with Own It to take the first step into their place – a step towards reclaiming their whenua and breaking decades of generational trauma. And as a further proof point of that impact, the 'Step Into Your Place' campaign has been named a double finalist in the Comms Council Effie Aotearoa Awards, awards that recognise effectiveness in advertising and marketing communications. Huge mihi to Tāmaki Regeneration for trusting us to be their partner in impact, and to those whānau who are stepping into their place with OWN IT. Ngā mihi hoki to our digital partner 10XL and all the other Effie Award nominees. Kia ora e te whānau, Today we share an important announcement. Mihi is taking on the role of sole Managing Director at Māia as Bee steps down as a Director. The Māia journey began as Brave Bear Publicity 11 years ago in Bee’s tiny office at home in Petone, back when her babies were still twinkles in her eye. We joined forces during COVID—when the world was upside down. With nothing to lose, we leaned into our shared values, volunteered for kaupapa and causes with purpose and proudly introduced our Conscious Communication Framework to Aotearoa through Māia. It’s been a wild ride, full of highs, challenges, and moments that will be etched into our hearts forever. We sent out the good vibes, and good things followed. Together, we’ve supported countless kaupapa that have made a real impact in Aotearoa. Bee’s farewell was marked with a team and whānau waka hourua sail thanks to Te Toki Voyaging Trust. The Māia team sends Bee off with huge aroha and gratitude for putting her heart and soul into growing the Māia kaupapa. We are amped to continue our mission of spreading conscious communication with even more passion and purpose.
