Recovering valuable metals for the circular economy
About us
Mint Innovation, a New Zealand cleantech company, has scaled biological processes that recover valuable metals from waste. Our first process is a unique biometallurgical approach to recover metals from electronic scrap. A key aspect of the Mint process is the use of proprietary microbes that are selective for specific metals. Combined with the advantages of low-cost green chemistry, we aim to make it viable, both economically and environmentally, to capture value from e-waste near its point of collection.

It was an honour to host Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, Diane Farrell, at our facility during her recent visit to Sydney. As we prepare to enter the U.S. market, having the support of Deputy Under Secretary Farrell underscores the value Mint can offer in strengthening critical mineral supply chains and economic security, as well as addressing global environmental challenges. A massive thanks to International Trade Administration, U.S. Commercial Service Australia, U.S. Department of Commerce and SelectUSA organising the visit.
SYDNEY | Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, Diane Farrell, just wrapped up a visit to Australia, Fiji, Palau, and Papua New Guinea. During her visit, the Deputy Under Secretary focused on fostering trade resiliency, bolstering economic security, and addressing key global challenges, such as climate change, digital transformation, and supply chain resiliency as well as reinforcing partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region that advance economic prosperity and resilience for all. In Australia, Deputy Under Secretary Farrell explored new opportunities for collaboration with senior Australian government officials as well as representatives from the American business community to promote U.S. investment and enhance bilateral trade. The United States is Australia’s most important economic partner, with U.S. trade and investment contributing seven percent of Australia’s annual economy. The International Trade Administration (ITA) at the U.S. Department of Commerce is the premier U.S. Government resource for American companies competing in the global marketplace. Operating in more than 100 U.S. locations and 80 markets worldwide, ITA promotes trade and investment, assists U.S. businesses and workers to export and expand globally, and ensures fair trade and compliance by enforcing U.S. trade laws and agreements. Last week, Mint COO Jason Price had the privilege of visiting Washington, D.C. to meet with key officials at the White House, the Department of Energy, the State Department and its Minerals Security Partnership team, as well as several staffers for Members of Congress in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. It was also a pleasure to visit our fellow Kiwis at the New Zealand Embassy. As we plan to make our move into the United States, it was an excellent opportunity to meet with key stakeholders to discuss how Mint's unique biotechnology will accelerate critical mineral security and create a more sustainable future. We'd like to thank Vogel Group for organising this visit and for the ongoing support as we take Mint's technology to America! 🇺🇸 #Sustainability #CriticalMinerals #CircularEconomy

This November, Mint Innovation is proud to back the Movember movement, a cause rallying to make a difference in men's health. This mission is close to our hearts, especially for our Senior Engineer, Mehdi Malekmohammadi, who is courageously battling thyroid cancer. Here’s a bit from Mehdi’s story: "I’m fighting thyroid cancer, and I've seem firsthand the challenges men face—the pain, side effects, and the toll on mental health. In today’s tech-driven world, where we often lose touch with real, physical connections, something as simple as a smile can make a huge difference. This is why raising awareness for this cause is so important to me and why I am growing out my beard this November." Every donation fuels life-saving research and resources for cancer treatment, mental health support, and wellness for men. There are so many ways to show support, so let’s come together to make an impact! To support Mint Innovation’s Movember team, visit our page below 👇 https://ow.ly/O6NJ50U5F8v

At Mint, we always remind ourselves not to underestimate the power of communities in bringing about change. Our recent engagement with Willowbank Primary School was a great example of this. It was an absolute pleasure to work with this passionate group of students who not only took charge to spread the word about their e-waste drive but helped to start conversations and raise awareness of the issue in their community. A round of applause for the students! 👏 Read more about it below.👇 https://lnkd.in/gNJs5emP #Communityengagement #Ewaste #Sustainability #Ewasterecycling #Cleanfuture
